By Sal V – Liverpuncher.com. While on my way to Oakland for Andre
Ward (21-0 13 KO) vs. Mikkel Kessler (42-2), I was thinking would the
people come out and represent bay area boxing? We had lots of sporting
events going on around the bay this weekend including the San Jose
Sharks, a Raiders home game, and not to mention BIG GAME football weekend with
CAL vs. Stanford.
Well, all that questioning would be ...read on for more..
Bob Arum said that Miguel Cotto could return to the boxing ring as early as June 2010 in time for the Puerto Rican Day parade, according to a report from Primera Hora.
"First, Miguel needs a long period of rest, so forget boxing for a while. Then we will sit down to talk about some possible opponents, but the idea is for him to fight again in the summer. If we reach an agreement to make the event at Yankee Stadium, it would be ideal to have Miguel with Juan Manuel "Juanma "Lopez on the same card. We would need both of them to fill the place. But if it's at Madison Square Garden, then it would only be Miguel," Arum said.
The PPV numbers are out and Pacquiao vs Cotto drew 1.25 million
viewers, one of the top boxing totals of all time. What does team Mayweather have to
say about them apples?
Manny Pacquiao has a rock star following which does not allow him much space to move about his country unnoticed. When he returned home, he was asked about a potential fight with Floyd Mayweather and said....Read on for more
Who said Boxing Was Dead? According to reports from HBO, Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto sold 1.25 million pay per views. This number beats the 1 million mark set by Floyd Mayweather vs. Juan Manuel Marquez.
This was a key metric in the negotiations between a potential bout between Mayweather and Pacquio because whoever generated more buys could conceivably say they bring more to the table and thus deserve a big split of the revenue.
However Team Mayweather anticipated the higher numbers because Pacquiao had a “dance partner” in Cotto while according to them Marquez didn’t bring as much to the table. They went on to say that if a deal with Pacquiao cannot be made they will move to Shane Mosley, if Mosley can get by Andre Berto in January.
Speaking to a radio show In The Zone Roach said, “I honestly don't think he wants to fight Pacquiao. I think both fighters know that if they do the fight at 50-50, it's going to happen. My guy is definitely on board. We definitely want that fight. Mayweather I'm not so sure.
“I'd like to get 60-40 our way of course. I know that we're the bigger draw. " Read on for more...
Bob Arum recently
spoke to Reuters giving his explanation as to why Floyd Mayweather may not want
to fight Manny Pacquiao. He even attempts to explain Mayweathers psyche....
"You
have to understand Mayweather's psyche," Arum told Reuters.
"Psychologically he may not be prepared to do this fight. Now this is me
being an amateur psychologist, but Mayweather is so tied up with the fact that
nobody has beaten him, that he has a zero on his record, that I don't know if
he would be willing to go into the ring with anybody that could jeopardize that
zero. He is afraid, terrified of losing that zero."
"That's
why he's ducked Mosley, Margarito and Cotto, and the question is will he duck
Manny Pacquiao because he's so afraid of losing that zero? Boxing is on such a
roll now, not to do this fight would slow down considerably the momentum that
boxing has, and that would be wrong."
