Marquez earns victory over Vazquez E-mail
IBF bantamweight champion Rafael Marquez (37-3, 33 KOs) stopped WBC super bantamweight champion Israel Vazquez (41-4, 31 KOs ) in the seventh round.  The fight started off with a bang as Vazquez dropped Marquez with a left hook in round three. Marquez never saw the punch coming.  But the ever determined Marquez rose to his feet and both fighters fought with an even greater intensity.  As the back and forth battle progressed, Marquez used a powerful jab to keep Vazquez off balance. The tactic proved to be  successful and Vazquez quit at the end of the seven round.  He later told the press he couldn't continue due to breathing problems from an apparent nose. As for Marquez he plans to stay in the 122lb division.

For most fight fans this victory should elevate Marquez status in the game.  His pound for pound credentials speak for themselves.  Where do you rank him amongst the best in the world?

Cotto wins by TKO E-mail
Puerto Rican superstar, Miguel Cotto (29-0, 24 KOs ) won a tougher than expected fight against mandatory challengar Oktay Urkal.  Cotto landed hard shots to the body, which served him well as the fight progressed to the later rounds.  Urkal’s attempt to use his boxing skills proved to be insufficient to hold off the Cotto attack.  Cotto clearly won the first 4 rounds on all the judges score cards, and in the seventh round Urkal was deducted a point for a head butt which caused a cut over the Puerto Rican’s eye.  This appeared to create a distraction for Cotto as he seemed to be more hesitant to engage as the fight went on.  In the 11th, a second head butt was cause for another point deduction against Urkal.  The corner had seen enough and threw in the towel at 1:01 making Cotto the winner by TKO.

Shane Mosley outclasses Collazo E-mail
Shane Mosley turned back the clock and won a unanimous decision against the game, but over matched Luis Collazo.  After fighting in the 154 lb. weight class, Mosley, moved down to 147 pounds and appeared to have the quicker hands and harder punch than his opponent.  Before the fight, the lingering question was if Mosley would be able to handle the younger, slick south paw who gave Hatton all he could handle.  The scores were 118-109 (twice) and 119-108, with Mosley scoring a knockdown in the 11th round and left no doubt in anyone’s mind that he is on his way back to the top of the boxing world.  When asked if he would face Mayweather, Mosley said he would willingly take the fight if it becomes available later this year.  Source HBO.
