Calderon wins 12-round unanimous decision E-mail

Ivan Calderon earned an unanimous decision over Jesus Iribe in the WBO Junior Flyweight Championship in Theatre at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night.

Calderon was knocked down with a hard right hand in the second round, but used movement and slickness to win most of the remaining rounds.

“I got hit hard and went down in the second round, but I knew good movement would beat him,” Calderon said. The judges scored it 118-109, 118-109, 116-111 for Calderon.

Miguel Cotto shone brightly once again, this time under the twinkling lights of Yankee Stadium.

The pride of Puerto Rico stopped a game Yuri Foreman in the ninth round Saturday night to win the junior middleweight title, delighting thousands of his fans in the first fight at the Bronx ballpark in more than three decades.  Official score cards had the fight 79-73 (twice), 78-74 all in favor of Cotto at the time of the stoppage.  Read on for more…

NEW YORK -- Manny Pacquiao seems to win something, whether it's a fight or an award, just about every time he makes the long trip to the United States.

GELSENKIRCHEN, Germany -- Vitali Klitschko of Ukraine defended his WBC heavyweight championship belt Saturday night with a 10th-round knockout of Albert Sosnowski of Poland.

Klitschko improved his record to 40-2 (38 KOs) after the ring referee called the 12-round bout following a left-right combination to Sosnowski's head at the 2 minute, 30 second mark of the 10th round.  Read on for more…

WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko is the overwhelming favorite on Saturday to defend his title belt against Albert “The Dragon” Sosnowski.

The Ukrainian-born “Dr. Iron Fist” Klitschko, who lives in Hamburg, enters the fight at the Veltnis Arena in Gelsenkirchen with a 41-2 (37 KOs) record. Sosnowski, a native of Warsaw who lives in Brentwood, England, has a 45-2-1 (27 KOs) record.  Read on for more…
