Heavyweight
champion Wladimir Klitschko (51-3, 45 KOs) beat Tony "The Tiger"
Thompson (31-2, 19 KOs) to defend his belts on Saturday night at the Color Line
Arena in
Hamburg,
Germany. The fight was as many LP members
predicted, including Darkstar, Hintomas, Swodogg, and southillboxer, all who
scored bonus points for predicting the correct time frame the fight was stopped
– by 11th round KO.
It was a
slow start for the champ who faced a very determined challenger with a great body
attack. Thompson showed he was not
intimidated by Klitschko’s power right hand and deflected it quite often.
Despite the heavy favorite in the fight, and almost every LP member going with Klitschko over Thompson, you won't believe what Teddy Atlas predicted for this fight. Also included in the video is highlight coverage of the fight. Great stuff.
We have all seen Wladamir Klitschko fight several times throughout his career, but little is known about his opponent this Saturday, Tony Thompson. When asked about Thompson's style Klitschko admitted, its a 'little bit special' as he prepares to defend of his IBF,
WBO and IBO titles Saturday at the Color Arena in Hamburg.
Speaking to
Setanta Sports News during Steve Bunce's Boxing Hour, the big Ukrainian
said, "I will not underestimate this opponent. He hasn't lost in the
last eight years. He's very confident. He's famous in Hamburg. He
knocked out Luan Krasniqi spectacularly in their fight last year. He's
an unorthodox fighter, he doesn't fight impressively, but he's very
effective with his style. He is a southpaw fighter. I'll have to really
adjust myself to his style."

In what will be a candidate for round of the year, Kendall Holt (24-2, 13 KOs) scored an amazing first round knockout over reigning world super lightweight champion
Ricardo Torres (32-2, 28 KOs) to seize the WBO belt on Saturday night
at the Planet Hollywood Casino in Las Vegas.
Torres came out as fast as he ended the first fight and
knocked down Holt not once, but twice! The fight could have had some controversy because Torres hit Holt while the referee was breaking them apart after the second knock down. But luckily the fight continued.
Holt kept his composure, and Torres was swinging for the fences which left him open for a homerun right hand from Holt which left Torres hanging on the ropes knocked out cold.

In
his first interview since retiring, former world champion Floyd
Mayweather has accused HBO announcers of racism. "...they talk about
Kelly Pavlik, a white fighter, like he's the second coming Or they go
crazy over Manny Pacquiao. But I'm a black fighter," Mayweather told
David Mayo, boxing writer of his hometown newspaper, the Grand Rapids
Press. "Is it racial? Absolutely!" alleged Floyd. "They praise white
fighters, they praise Hispanic fighters, whatever. But black fighters,
they never praise. I've noticed it for a long time but I couldn't say
anything because I had to do business with them.
What are
the odds that defending WBO junior welterweight champion Ricardo Torres
successfully defends his title twice against top-rated contender Kendall Holt?
According
to the Supervisor of Race & Sports at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino,
not very good.
Newly-crowned World Boxing Council super featherweight
champion Manny Pacquiao and WBC lightweight champion David Diaz will battle in
a 12-round rumble with Diaz's title at stake.
The odds makers have the fight posted at 3-1 in favor of
Pacquiao and members in the fantasy league have also overwhelmingly predicted a
win for the Filipino icon at a rate of 85%. Our own current league leader scientific ko 9-1 ( 1
KOs
