Amateur Boxing: Format needs to change E-mail

Blog by TheDemolitionDan thedemolitionDan - Boxing is the third most popular sport in the World and it continues to be a major part of our society. What can Boxing do to grow this great popular sport? Like I said in a previous article as getting rid af the ABC titles, but they could also change the format of Amateur Boxing. Nobody really cares who comes out of Amateur Boxing into the Pro ranks. The format should be changed to just like how the pros do it no more of this “pitty-patty” type scoring.

Would anybody care about College Football if the played flag football? Of course not.

Would anybody care about College Baseball if they played 4 innings and a base hit was counted as a run? Of course not.

Amateur Boxing is so different for Professional Boxing that it should be changed.

Keep all the protection to keep the fighters safe, but the scoring system should be changed. If Amateur Boxing changed into a Pro fight then Amateur Boxing may become a big time sport and it may soon get it's own fan base similar to College Football, Baseball, and Basketball.

Changing the Amateur Boxing format only benefits.

So amateur boxing should be just like pro boxing.

In that case we should just scrap the amateurs altogether!!

You critisize "Pitty pat type scoring".Is pro boxing scoring really much better????

Amateur boxing AS IT IS ...is essential.
it teaches kids the fundamentals of the game without getting their brains beaten out.
Its different to pro boxing FOR A REASON.

The point is that nobody cares about the Amateurs because of there point system. That's all I said, I didn't say change everything about the Amateurs all together. The Amateurs teaches the kids how to fight which it will coninue to do all you have to do is change the scoring. Pro Boxing scoring isn't much better, but that's the scoring and that's the scoring that everybody knows.

Changing the Amateur scoring system benefits everybody. It would build it's own fan base like College Football, College Basketball, etc. because Boxing is one of the most popular sports in the World. Do you think anybody would care about College Football if they were playing flag football? No of course not?

I dont know what flag football is.I dont think I really know what college football is either. These are nonentities to the rest of the world!!
NOBODY CARES EXCEPT AMERICANS.

What you call "soccer" is what I and all the rest of the world call football.

Dan just because your not a fan of the amateur code doesnt mean its not popular.Amateur boxing already has its own fan base....and its a global one.

I know the computer scoring is far from perfect, but the scoring was just as bad before the computers were introduced.Thats a fact.
Boxing scoring,in both codes,is imperfect because its subjective.
That cant be changed.

barrykill1980, amateur boxing in the United States is dying rapidly, and you can see the results in how shitty our amateur boxing team does in international competitions, and the most important, the Olympics.

Amateur clubs are closing at a fast rate due to non-interest, and now, a poor economy. Many clubs rely on state & federal monies to keep them operating, and those funds are drying up.

I see what Dan's saying about it. I don't necessarily agree with it, I don't think the scoring is the problem, I think it's just plain non interest because there's no premier amateur boxers out there to grab anyone's attention, like Leonard, Holyfield, Tyson, Breland, Jones, Jr, etc.

You make some valid points here barry, but you also come across as a typical arrogant, stuffy Brit who thinks your shit doesn't stink !

First of all, American boxing HASN'T been in crisis for years. The amateur ranks, as well as the pro's are notoriously cyclicle in nature, and have been forever. As mentioned earlier, the amateurs haven't been turning out as many quality fighters into the pro ranks because of the closing of many amateur clubs due to non interest/participation, and lack of federal, and state funding. But on the other hand, MANY great American boxers throughout the years, have had little, if any amateur experience, so, is being an amateur boxer a prerequisite to being a good professional ? Not necessarily !

The last time I checked, your British amateur boxing team that represents your country in international competitions, and the Olympics, is nothing to get wet panties over either, so don't be blowing your Pompous horn about the American amateur problems !

Flag football is what very young kids play when they first start out (like little league babseball) so they don't get injured, and college football IS very popular in the States, almost as popular as you Brit's being inbred due to fucking your sisters, and cousins, and mums !

And one more thing, what you call football, is what I, and many millons of others call plain fucking BORING !

Now, if you want to drop the bullshit, and talk serious boxing talk instead of just slamming America, and Americans, we can do that too.
