Andre Berto Scores KO and WBC belt! E-mail

Only four years and 22 fights into his professional career, Andre Berto is on top of the WBC’s welterweight division which was the belt relinquished by Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Berto stopped Miguel “Mikki” Rodriguez in the seventh round to capture the WBC welterweight title Saturday night at the FedExForum.  But as Liverpuncher member raygun put it, “when is berto going to fight a live body?”

With the exit of Floyd Mayweather Jr. boxing could certainly use some excitement from a talent like Berto.

“I’m really excited right now,” Berto said. “It’s an unbelievable feeling at age 24 that I’m now the world champion.”  During the post fight interview with Max Kellerman, Berto was asked if he was ready for the elite in the division -  somewhat of an aqward but relevent question for the newly crowned WBC champion.

Berto knocked Rodriguez down twice in the seventh before the referee stopped the bout with 47 second left as Berto continually rocked Rodriguez with right hands.

The punch stats for the fight were as lopsided as the Liverpuncher predictions.  Berto had an overall connect rate of 52% and 62% for power punches.

Some big names were mentioned in the post fight press conference, including Miguel Cotto, and Paul Williams, time will tell if he is truly in their league.

Below are the list of Liverpuncher members who made the correct prediction on the fight and scored bonus KO points.  Congrats to all of you.
