Andre Berto stops Quintana; Celesitno Caballero destroys Yordan E-mail
Andre Berto stopped Carlos Quintana in the eighth round Saturday night to retain his WBC welterweight championship at the BankAtlantic Center.
Berto (26-0) did heavy damage from the third round through the eighth. He finally felled Quintana, a former WBO champion, with a succession of hard rights before referee Tommy Kimmons stopped the bout at the 2:16 mark.

Quintana (27-3) had Berto looking tentative in the first two rounds.

But Berto came alive in the third round and began landing combinations for the duration of the fight. He had Quintana against the ropes in the third round. In the fifth round, he rocked Quintana again, this time with a straight right.

Berto landed a couple big rights in the sixth and seventh rounds. ...Read on for more...

Celestino Caballero, one of the top boxers in the world, had sought an opportunity to fight on the big stage of HBO for the past couple of years, and looking to impress when he got it.

He got his opportunity on Saturday night and indeed impressed.

The junior featherweight titleholder moved up to featherweight and pounded his way past Daud Yordan for a lopsided unanimous decision at the BankAtlantic Center in the co-featured bout on the Andre Berto-Carlos Quintana card.

You name it and Caballero nailed Indonesia's Yordan with it. He stayed busy with his jab, landed hard right uppercuts and worked the 22-year-old over with a withering body assault.

All the while the hard-headed Yordan kept coming forward, but with only occasional success. He landed some hard left hands, but they came only one at a time while Caballero threw punches in bunches all night.

In the end, Caballero landed 325 of 1,248 punches (26 percent), according to CompuBox statistics. That's the third-most punches ever thrown in a featherweight fight tracked by CompuBox over 25 years.

Yordan could muster landing only 105 of 379 shots (28 percent).

quintana didnt throw the match. he just had his tail handed to him. let someone spin you around and hit you in the back of the head a few times and see how you feel. nice comeback for berto with all that he has had to deal with. he deserves a shot. maybe with paul williams who is comin down after his next match or floy . manny wont happen he is matchin up with antoino too bad i would actually watch a manny berto match to see what berto is made of.

Williams! r u serious?(no match) Berto didnt impress at all. he showed lots of wholes in his "D" any top welter will take him to school. Shane would've put him to sleep. Battered Cotto Vs berto would be a good scrap.

About caballero. cocky son of a ... . he was a punching machine, his lateral movement, the way he rolled with punches, very impressive win.

Berto knew who he was facing, in Quintana. Those gaps in Bertos defence will be his demise. Mosley would have KOed this kid. Berto better watch the tape.

what do you mean Quintana didnt throw the match?? did you see the quintana that fought Cotto or PW??? theres no way Berto couldve handled that, hell Quintana dropped him clearly with a miserable punch in rnd 1 and the ref didn count it, then he hurt him again in rnd 2 with a big left, but all of a sudden he stopped throwing the left, he was just putting in baby punches, Berto cant take a punch go watch the Collazo fight again, Collazo has no pop in his punches and Berto was constantly about to getting dropped the whole fight with Collazo and was hanging on to dear life every 15 seconds of each round, Collazo was clearly robbed that night just like against Hatton, Berto cant take too many punches, hes gonna get rapped by any top welter, specially PW, Bertos main weakness is volume punching.

Berto's biggest weakness is that he can't see the punches. quintana hurt him with an upper that berto didnt see and also earlier with a timed looping left. any 1-2 combination after that, and he would've dropped.

Did anybody see the 24x7. That was wack!

I THINK QUINTANA WAS GONNA LOSE ANYWAY BUT THAT REF SUCKED HE WOULD ONLY CALL FOULS THAT QUINTANA DID BUT DID NOTHING ABOUT BERTOS AND THAT WAS DEF A KNOCKDOWN FOR QUINTANA IN RD 1

That ref was HBO's little flunkie. Berto better thank god he did not face Shane cuz he would have been sleeping by five rounds! Mayby Quinhomo did throw that fight...Either way Berto cannot be nothing more then a paper champ.Im not suprized at all.

berto is powerfull and fast as hell. makes up for his flaws. manny has flaws too, but seems to be doin ok. so does mosley. he did ok in his carear. berto has flaws but can do a lot that others can not do.and he was rusty. only people left for him is mosley, floyd, manny, paul williams. no one else makes sense.too powerfull and fast for anyone else.

Berto dissapointed me with his whinin g and bad defence.Gonna get schooled when he faces the likes of pac, floyd, sugar. As for caballero, what a punching machine, but i was impressed with the way young yordan kept coming,he only young,22,and he gained some valuable experience from that fight.Future bright for the kid i think. As for caballero, cant wait for a gamboa showdown.Tough one to call thqat one because cant see even gamboa ko him,and theres no one can out work him,either.100 punches plus, every rd,amazing.

Cotto beat and pretty much made Quintana punch drunk. He's a decent gatekeeper now that's about it. Berto is ok but he still isn't good enough to compete with Mayweather, Mosley, etc.

It does not mean shxt if you are fast strong or have talent if you have a glass chin and to top that off your defence sucks.Berto is simply not that good, he got dropped by a weak puncher. And no its not just the top guys that can beat him, there are plenty of other guys in the welter ranks that would kick his ass good. Like: Saul ALvarez,Paul Williams, hell Tony would even stomp him,and Tonys not a top welter anymore, he just does not have the tools to be great. Hell be exposed soon even if people dont see it yet.

doesnt matter what anyone thinks bottom line. berto has beat who he has to beat and has earned the rt. to match up with the best in the world. he has one of the main belts and his next apponent should be manny, paul williams, or winner of floyd, mosley. he has earned it. if hatton and clottey can have a shot so should berto. ****** HE HAS EARNED IT.******

WTF Bri??, Hatton retired Tzyu and battered Castillo, Clottey destroyed Corrales, fought close with Margo having 2 broken hands, and he schooled Judah, those are big names, who has Berto fought??? he won the WBC belt fighting against a half time boxer-full time police officer NOBODY, then after that he had his ass handed to him by Collazo and gifted a desicion, then fought a 140 slowpoke in Urango who didnt do shit till the last 3 rnds and he did get to Berto but it was too late, and now a half assed Quintana who wasnt even hungry to win the fight and Berto didnt impress in both fights, atleast Hatton and Clottey have big names in their resumes, Berto has nothing, and both Hatton and Clottey would beat Berto anyday.

berto needs to fight the winner of aydin vs collazo ...aydin offerd him 1 mil and berto ref to fight him .so collazo stepped up to the plate

Thats right Jandro, Berto has not proved anything cuz Collazo stomped his ass like a nark at a biker rally. If he is sooo good why dont he look like a real threat to anyone? He can meet Tim Bradly @ 143 and get his ass kicked some more. This is why HBO should get out of promotion and gifting decitions and just show good fights like shotime does. Berto doesnt deserve to be talked about, Collazo is the better fighter and his additude is better as well. Berto is another hype job by HomoBoysOnly.

Furthermore: when people compare Berto to a young Shane Mosley, that is a laugh! Cuz Shane was 28-0-28kos. A young or old Shane would still stomp that mama's boy ass with EASE!

Off topic. I might sound like an asshole for saying this, but some of you guys need to hit spell check before you hit send. There are some really bad spelling in some of these comments. But I agree with some of the stuff you guys are saying. Berto is on the right track to becoming a star though. He's building his resume. It's just that he has the WBC strap that is speeding his process in building that resume. I really believe if he had a better defense or some head movement, he would be a tough opponent for some of the top guys in the division.

That is all correct Sik, this guys got more glass in his chin then a chandaleer. And as Champ he has more paper fibers then a stack of newspapers. He is a PAPER CHAMP, save your cash Berto, cuz youll go out faster then Mc Hammer,Michael Jackson zipper jackets and ninjas in the eighties and ninetys. Berto looks like a angry gorilla but dont fight like one.

lol, another thing i dont stand about Berto, after fights he goes on this acid trip and talks so high of himself and actually believes it, he thinks he's an all mighty, i remember when he won the WBC belt, it was the 1st fight i saw of him, the wins UN IMPRESSIVELY then starts talking about how Mayweather made the right choice in retiring cause he knew he was gonna face him next for the belt and that he would've KOd PBF and take the belt, i was like WTF MAN??? you must be taking some dope shit to say that after such a mediocre fight against a bar brawler they pulled out of the audience lol.

berto is such an overated fighter, he has no form, a weak chin and will eventually be exposed with some good competition. his jaw is like a fragile piece of saran wrap that ready to tear away from his face

Thats funny as hell,Cb. I think its more like a thin plastic halloween monkey mask thats about to get implanted (with dents) into his real face when some youngster gets upset at him for trying to eat his candy or kiss his witch girlfriend. And now Mr. Berto will use his big ugly lips to dunk for apples. While the kid dressed as Ronald Mcdonald punches him in the ribs and steals his candy and his ugly bicth that is dressed as a whore.
