Andre Ward steps up in the ring looking for respect
Tonight ShoBox
features two up and coming fighters, Andre Ward vs Henry “Sugar Poo” Buchanan; with
a name like that, "Sugar Poo" better know how to fight.
As for Ward,
he has been criticized not so much for his talent or performances in the ring,
but rather who he has been in the ring with. Most of his opponents have been more “Poo” than “Sugar” if you catch my
drift.
Can’t Fool Fight Fans
Ward
says, “I have lots of incentive and lots of huge chips on my shoulders. I feel
I should be ranked higher. I don’t think I get the respect I deserve, and I
don’t know why… Read on
"…I’ve risen
to the occasion each time.” While this may be true, fight fans can’t be
fooled. We know he has fought c level
opposition. Fight Fans know Ward has
been brought up slowly but they also know he has lots of talent and they want
to see him use it in a real fight. Once he does this, even if he loses in a
good showing he will get the respect he is looking for.
Find A Suitable
Stepping Stone
Its been
discussed here by fight fans that Ward was considering a fight with the veteran
“Road Warrior” Glen Johnson. Two words
Andre – Big Mistake. While fans want to
see you in a good fight, Johnson isn’t a step up in competition, its going from
grammar school to a masters program. Johnson
is not only heavier, but has the work rate of a killer bee hive. Johnson may be an older fighter, but he doesn’t
fight that way. Its common place for
young boxers to take on old champions as a stepping stone, but Johnson is
nothing to be stepped on. In this video, you will see how he made current light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson struggle to cross the finish line.
Ward has
said he would “fight Jermain Taylor in a second.” Thats probably a little better decision, but there is probably some middle ground between Taylor and "Sugar Poo" he can find.
Sugar "Who”?
With so many "sugars" in boxing its hard to keep track. Well at
least Buchanan doesn’t think so high of himself that he would simply use the “Sugar”
moniker without adding the “Poo”. We
couldn’t find much on the guy. Below is
a video interview, and the guy does have the gift of gab, but can he back it up
in the ring?
Be sure to
catch Ward in action tonight, and let us know what you think and who he should
step in the ring with next.
Sugar Poo rules! According to him, everyone else in his division is a BUM... What the hell has he accomplished? Lol.. Gotta love the swagger though! Hopefully he gives us an entertaining scrap!
Hes a talker....but comon bra can u back it up? Waiting for Taylor to come out of his rabbit hole...lol.... Sugar Poo better be able to back up them words!
ward needed to take him out earlier...stop messin around with bum fighters. Glenjohnson is too much for him ...don't do it ..2soon...go after Taylor instead
1. ward has no killer instinct like all great dominant champions hav 2 he needs to step up opposition big time its been four and a half years since the olympics and he's still fighting bums
