Arce vs. Darchinyan Analysis: A “Locomotive” vs. “The Little Engine that Could”
Last night we saw lots of fireworks, but they were mostly
one-sided. Vic Darchinyan was a freight
train all night with the left hand, bobbing in and out of range of the Mexican
fighter and catching him with uppers all night long. There was only one glimpse of the old Arce, in the 3rd
round where....Click for More!
we saw a fight break out in the middle of the ring with full toe to
toe action to show for. The action
wouldn’t last long however. After the 3rd
round we only saw a shadow of Arce’s former self and the back and forth action
turned into a one-sided affair in the later rounds.
Technically speaking, Arce did lots of things wrong that
could have made this a more even fight. Circling to his right walking into Vic’s missile like left hand is a
no-no especially against a power puncher like Vic. Also lunging in with hooks and leaving yourself open for Vic’s
other weapon, the Uppercut, was a disaster for Arce waiting to happen.
His corner repeatedly warned him to stop lunging and that his
hooks were not reaching their intended target but Arce continued on. He was hoping to land the left hook Nonito
Donaire was able to do in his KO victory. Arce did
land the hook on various occasions but Vic was never really phased.
After the 8th round, we were just waiting for the
inevitable to happen. Vic was just too
strong and too fast and continued to land his power punches at will into the 11th
round. The heart and courage of Arce
would eventually be his undoing as the doctor looked at the punishment and
asked that the action be stopped.
Darchinyan never allowed himself to be left on the ropes
where Arce could capitalize with his insight fighting. This was a strategic move by Vic and it paid
dividends. Most all the action took
place in the middle of the ring where Vic circled and power punched his way to
victory leaving Arce badly battered. Arce’s jab was nowhere to be found as he tried to hook his way into a
brawl with Vic. Arce’s better years may
be behind him, with over 50 fights under his belt his future may be in
question.
The champion was yet again able to back up his words and
“destroy” his opponent in devastating fashion. “Arce hit me with some good shots, but I was too strong,” Darchinyan
said. “I think my speed was a difference. I am ready to fight anybody.”
There are lots of options with Boxer-Puncher Fernando
Montiel the WBO champ at 115lbs. Montiel’s style could make for a very
interesting match-up vs. the hard punching Darchinyan. A rematch with 112lb IBF champ Nonito Donaire is also a possibility.
We also have the two huge bangers at 122, Rafael Marquez and
Israel Vazquez who fought in 2008’s fight of the year. This would definitely be a showdown with all
gun’s a-blazing should they ever meet. There are exciting potential fights ahead for the “Raging Bull” let’s hope
as fight fans, they do get made.
Yea, too strong too acurate for worn out-arce. Montiel might be the soones, Aparently Donaire is a no-go, you all saw how vik's promoter loves donaire. hehe. Eventhough vic's a tough cookie in his division, I dont really see a future for vic in the higher weights Imagine Caballero Vs Darchinian? that would be some size difference. there's also Juanma lopez. I didnt hear his name pop up after fight.
