Bernard Hopkins Decisions Ornales, Still Wants Roy Jones Jr.! |

In his home town of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Bernard Hopkins (50-5-1, 32KOs) dominated Enrique Ornelas (29-6, 19KOs) over twelve rounds to earn a unanimous decision. The scores were 118-110, 120-109 and 119-109. Read on to hear what he said about Roy Jones getting knocked out….
It was a typical performance by Hopkins who used a measured approach early in the fight and slowly picked up the pace. Hopkins countered well and held on when he had to. Hopkins stunned Ornales a few times in the fight and really poured it on in the last two rounds where he appeared to still have lots of energy while the younger Ornales faded down the stretch.
At the end of the fight Hopkins said, “Ornales is a good fighter, he took some good shots in there, and I took some good shots in there.”
When asked about a potential match up with Roy Jones Jr. Hopkins said that the fight can still be made despite the fact that Jones lost by TKO in the first round. Hopkins said, “There is a big difference between getting knocked out and a TKO. That was a TKO. Jones was still on his feet. I didn’t think a lot of the punches were landing, Jones was on the ropes like he always does.”
Could this be Hopkins attempt at salvaging a pay day with Jones? Don’t rule that out. However that fight is more than likely off of the table.
Hopkins also commented about his future in the heavyweight division. He said, “In 2010 I will be Heavyweight Champion of the world!”
