Blog by: The Bodysnatcher: Javier Reyes After
watching the Yonnhy Perez/Joseph Agbeko fight the first thing that I thought
was, I guess Agbeko is not a fan of my blog. If Agbeko was a fan, he would have
read my Colombian One Hit Wonders blog from a few months ago and would have
known better than to overlook Perez.
Agbeko
said during multiple interviews that he was not overlooking Perez and that he
respected him; however you could tell that he was looking a bit too far into
the future. Agbeko was already making plans Click for More
to be the number one pound for
pound fighter in the sport. On the other hand Perez was just focused on winning
the fight and being able to provide for his family back in Colombia. When you
have two fighters thinking like this, the fighter that’s overlooking his
opponent better make sure he’s the far more skilled of the two, on Saturday
night Perez showed that was not the case.

When
I saw Agbeko beat Luis Perez in 2007 he reminded me a bit of a miniature James
Toney, with the great upper body movement he showed. Perez simply couldn’t
touch him on that night. Since then Agbeko has fought with a more reckless
abandonment and while he got away with it against Darchynian, he couldn’t do
the same against Perez. I know the Showtime crew had the fight close, but I
thought Perez won 7-5 and easily could have had it 8-4, add the 10-8 round and
I can see why the scores favored Perez so much.
Colombian
One Hit Wonder?
I’ve
talked in the past about how some of these Colombian punchers manage to upset
known fighters only to fail to capitalize on their victories. Perez already has
a victory over the well respected Silence Mabuza and now Agbeko, so I’m hoping
that Perez is here to stay for a while.
Antonio
DeMarco/Jose Alfaro
On
the main undercard bout, doing his best Juan Manuel Marquez impersonation
Antonio DeMarco was able to slip everything the heavy fisted Jose Alfaro threw
at him and give him a good beating. I saw DeMarco’s knock out of Kid Diamond
earlier this year and with his latest victory I must say that I’m starting to jump
on the bandwagon. DeMarco has good size, good power, and decent speed, if he
can continue to fight with a controlled style I think he can compete with
anyone at lightweight. With the recent fall of most(if not all) of the Mexican
great fighters, is nice to see some young blood.

Thoughts:
* I
finally got to listen to the heated debate between Floyd Mayweather and RA The
Rugged Man. Apparently Floyd also doesn’t read my blog(surprise!) If he did,
his debating skills would have improved by now.
* Shaq
or no Shaq the Cavs are not going to the finals this year. Lebron needs young
help the way Kobe got, not aging lions who are a shell of what they used to be.
* I’m
starting to think that, right about now, the Blazers are thinking maybe we
should have gone with Durant.
* This
is not a joke: Apparently Fernando Vargas is now challenging Camacho Jr to a
fight, after hearing this I think I speak for the boxing world when I say this
is just sad!
* People
might find Miguel Cotto boring, but I seriously think the man is one of the
coolest cats in the sport. While some people enjoy watching the flashy
Mayweather personality, I find the stone cold all business Cotto personality
just as entertaining.
* How awesome is it that your average boxing fan, like me, can
have his blogs published by Liverpuncher and put on the front page of their
site.

yo i was thinking about your colombian blog when i heard yonny was from colombia and won. i meant to hit you up about it, because i was wondering the same thing, can he keep the title?
i got to catch this radio interview you are talking about, post a link somewhere
and vargas vs camacho jr...hilarious bro! LOL keep up the good stuff.
Shaq is the man, watch, he's still got gas in the tank!
I think Cotto's camp are a bunch of chill guys, it looks like they have a good vibe going. It made me a bigger fan of him, that being said, I'm done picking fights with my heart, i still think Manny is going to drop him
Also I do hate that liverpuncher added that Cotto comment to my title. It was a random thought, in other words, not important enough to be the name of the article.
