I just read this article by Yahoo Sports scribe Kevin Iole "So far, not Super Six." I have to say what in the heck is he talking about?
He goes on to write a few interesting notes in the article like
"The fights were good,
though hardly great. There was nothing other than Abraham's one-punch knockout in the waning seconds that pulled you off of your seat."
Did he watch Froch get nailed in round 10 by Dirrell? Didn't he see Jermain Taylor almost get dropped in round 9 or so? Didn't he see the beautiful body punching by Abraham? Iole has been covering MMA a little too much and is totally missing the boat on this one. This was a GREAT night of boxing, makes no mention that this was a FREE event (not payPerView), and we had 4 of the top 6 super middle fighters of the world fighting back to back across two different countries.
The article then goes on to mention,
"Taylor, not surprisingly, had little to offer and was pretty much a sacrificial lamb by about the fifth round...One could have made an argument prior to the tournament that Taylor didn’t even deserve a spot"
Yet in the same article he says if he could make a welterweight tournament, he would definitely make it 8 people so as to include the likes of "Luis Collazo and Zab Judah."
Are you kidding me? You knock Taylor by calling him a "sacrificial lamb" possibly not deserving of the tournament yet would love to see the likes of "Luis Collazo and Zab Judah" in a Super 8 welterweight tournament? Judah has lost 6 and been KO'd twice! He doesn't even belong at 147lbs! Collazo is a good fighter but doesn't belong in the elite class of welterweight contenders. My point is don't knock Taylor for being a "sacrificial lamb" then in the same article say you want to see Zab Judah in a Super 8 Welterweight tournament.
Lets get the record straight. What we had was a GREAT night for boxing with some brutal KO, great body work and boxing stars getting their due on FREE INTERNATIONAL TV being streamed across TWO continents. This was not an evening where there was almost "nothing" to cheer about, on the contrary there was PLENTY to get me off my seat and say it was a great night for boxing.
I'm out!
