Bob Arum recommends Mayweather to fight Mosley

Like him, or hate him, everyone has an opinion about Floyd Mayweather Jr. So if you were managing his career, what would you recommend he does at this point, fight Shane Mosley or Manny Pacquiao.

“The fight that should be made is Mayweather and Shane Mosley. But Mayweather won’t take that fight. He won’t take any fight where there is any possibility where he might lose. Money is secondary with him. He will not take a chance like a normal fighter. He cares more about his legacy and being able to retire undefeated, so he could say that he never lost a fight.”

Mayweather was able to generate 1 million pay per view buys despite being off for nearly 2 years and facing an opponent in Juan Manuel Marquez, who isn’t a household name in the United States.

Just to put this in perspective, Oscar De la Hoya vs Bernard Hopkins, a great match up with two well known fighters, generated roughly the same number of pay per view buys as Mayweather’s last fight.

If Pacquiao vs Cotto doesn’t beat the 1 million mark you can bet Mayweather will want a split of 60-40 in his favor. To which Arum says “60-40? That’s music to my ears. If I start hearing 60-40 – that just tells me to hang up and move on to the next guy. I think Cotto probably beats Mayweather. I think Manny probably beats Mayweather and I think Mosley beats Mayweather. I think Shane Mosley, because of his style, has the best chance to beat Mayweather”.

Shane Mosley would be a fool to sign a fight w berto before the pacquiao vs cotto results are in. Why would shane want to be stuck fighting berto, if pacquiao and cotto will fight a rematch.

But Manny vs Floyd would pay alot more and less risk for PBF. I think Cotto, who I like as a fighter will get KO for taking the fight under 147 lbs. This is the first time I see him go for the money. Being the Floyd we know, he ll try to give himself an edge as usual, making it a welterweight bout at 147, so he can present himself 160 in the ring (like he did with JMM and didnt even have the dignity to step on the scale prior to the fight). I agree with Arum. Mayweather has dodged Mosley since 2000, back when they were both undefeated lightweights. Mosley has always tried to fight Mayweather but to no avail. Even Roger Mayweather has stated that fight would be Mayweather's toughest fight ever. Mayweather is what they call a paper champion. His record and antics fools the casual boxing fan. Another fighter that Mayweather has dodged is Paul Williams. The only 2 boxers who have not ducked or dodged anyone recently is Paul Williams and Manny Pacquaio. But being that Manny is small in stature compared to the welterweight division- and he's such a big PPV buy, of course people think they have a chance or beating him or at least a good payday. Paul Williams is flat out dodged by most "Prizefighters" because he's a huge risk with little reward...
