Breaking News: Pavlik vs Williams fight is off, again! E-mail

According to the Youngstown Vindicator , Kelly Pavlik will not be able to fight Paul Williams on December 5. The fight was previously scheduled for October, and postponed due to a staph infection suffered by Pavlik and later rescheduled for the December date. Pavlik's trainer Jack Loew says the staph infection has not gone away as expected and his fighter is unable to close his left hand.

"He's trying," said Loew. "He's been running, he's been trying to train in the gym. He's trying to shadow box with one hand, hit the speed bag with one hand. ... I've been trying to keep it a secret but it's not going great and I'm not going to fool anybody any longer."

Also, if the fight is indeed off as reported, word is that Sergio Martinez is willing to step in to fight Williams.  Sergio was scheduled to be on a non televised card on Dec 12, so he would be ready to fight.  Sergio brings the 154 pound WBC title to the table, so he would also want to be compensated nicely.  Lets see how this all plays out.

Translation: Paul is a bigger threat than I thought and I suddenly dont want a second loss! Who taught you that Floyd move? Too many boxers are into self-preservation and not fighting. In the early part of the century there were womans baseball teams and some of those women played with broken fingers but todays athlete is self absorbed and seeks glory at the lowest possible cost.

People will say that Kelly is punking out but I dont think so. He's a real fighter and he knows there's some big money with this fight. I think if he's healthy he gets it done. I have no desire to see Mora in there though. I pray to the boxing gods that dont happen. I'd much rather see Santos in there or Dzinidrik or whatever the hell his name is.

Wow, we were joking about this on the HBO forum and I said dont joke because it would not surprise me if it happens. Well it happened. I want to give Pavlik and his team the benefit of the doubt but the fact that its the same injury seems suspect. Why would you reschedule the fight and not knowing your hand is not going to be healed. Did the doctors say to him that his hand would be healed. Its disappointed for the fans and especially for Williams. I feel Pavlik should be stripped of his title and be allowed a mandatory fight when he is healthy to challenge the winner for his vacated belt.

Hell yeah....strip the belt...This is a huge disappointment. I was looking forward to seeing this, and Ill give Pavlik the benefit of the doubt. Williams was looking to capitalize on his win over Winky this year and make some big DOUGH before the end of the year, what a shame. Seems Williams alwayz gets a bad break, no one ever wants to fight the guy. I say Fight a Jr. Middle like Martinez or Santos

feel sorry for Williams for sure but.. this was a big opportunity for him.

but you know what? the Martinez fight actually sounds kind of interesting... Martinez has BLINDING.. i mean BLINDING speed, good fundamentals, fast foot work.. i don't know if that overcomes Williams' freakish dimensions and skills, but to me it's an interesting match up... Martinez got robbed with the majority decision with Cintron so it's a good opportunity for him.. he's really hungry...

I guess my frustraitions lie in the fact that this happens too often, but rules are rules if he cant defend then he must be stripped. Martinez is a great option as well. Martinez offers great speed, high work rate, accurate punching and is more than willing to entertain. I will reserve my benefit of the dought for a fighter that has only postponed once and not twice. Hopefully we at the very least see somthing this way we feel kissed before getting screwd.

We've seen it before when a champ would rahter leave his belt on the table instead of fighting the newcomer. Im also giving him the ben of doubt. pavlik worked his way up by knoking fools out so i dont think he's pussing out of this one. But If you can't defend they should remove his belt.
Martinez over Mora any day! p-will aint getting anything easy that's for sure.
