Chavez Jr. outpoints Duddy at Alamodome E-mail
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. of Mexico unanimously outpointed Ireland’s John Duddy on Saturday night in a 12-round middleweight fight at the Alamodome.

Chavez Jr. (42-0-1) dominated the early part of the fight with a steady dose of hooks and jabs, but Duddy (29-2) kept the pressure on and pushed Chavez to 12 rounds for the first time in his eight-year career.
“John is the toughest fighter I’ve faced so far,” Chavez said. “He kept the pressure on and really pushed me farther than I’ve been to this point in my career. But I knew coming in that he was going to be challenging, and I was happy to walk away with the victory.”

Former boxing star Julio Cesar Chavez led his son into the ring to an eruption of applause. The elder Chavez then did color commentary for the pay-per-view broadcast.

The fight was Chavez’s first since 10-round unanimous decision over Troy Rowlands in November that was changed to a no-contest after he tested positive for a banned substance a diuretic and was suspended for seven months by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The fight also was Chavez’s first with trainer Freddie Roach, who guides WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao.

Chavez returned to the place where he watched his father fight to a controversial 12-round draw against Pernell Whitaker in 1993.

“To fight in the same building that my father did is almost surreal for me,” Chavez said. “I never thought in my wildest dreams that I’d be headlining at the Alamodome.”

On the undercard, Marco Antonio Barrera (66-7) unanimously outpointed Adailton DeJesus (26-5) in a 10-round lightweight fight.

NICE!! one shitty fighter beat a completely shitty fighter.. is it just off of his name that this guy gets fights? i haven't seen anything out of Chavez Jr. that would warrent him getting the notice he does.. now he's Martinez' mandatory.. why am a getting this vision of Chavez Sr. running into the ring to and throwing punches at Martinez to stop the beating that Martinez would be inflicting on his unskilled, defenseless son.. this is going to be worse exposing than jermain taylor.. chavez jr is complete garbage!

Gamboa is a up and coming lemon, Juan Manuel Lopez(JUMA)will make lemonade out of him. Juma will reck him and exposed the Cuba defector. Juma is too technical and too good to lose to that Cuban cross-dressing midget. Showtime is building him up, but like H dumpling who sat on the wall, Camboa the midget will have a great fall.

are you high??? dude Juanma is waaaayyyy overrated, look at the Lonchti and Mtagwa fights, you say Juanma has technique??? you're fucking nuts, not to mention the Luevano fight which seemed rigged IMO since Luevano who is very technical didn't do shit and was completely flat footed, Gamboa has very good footwork and can box, he'll dance circles around Juanma and KO him, Juanma has absolutely no technique and no mental focus, he crumples and frustrate mentally too quickly, only guy Juanma can beat convincingly at 126 is Juarez, believe me he don't want any 126 champ right now cause he's got no chance.

season off indeed.
I didnt think it was a sleeper though. It was chavez's better performances ever and Yes he made it 12 rounds! YET not PPV worthy. The roach will avoid Martinez and he'll make a mistake to go against cotto. old cotto will take him out in 6.

If Duddy would consistently fight the way he did against Yori Boy Campos he could be a true contender. For whatever reason he has never been the same since that fight but he should at least have been able to beat an overrated fighter like Chavez Jr. Disappointing.
