The quick hand speed of Cotto was apparent early on and Gomez could not answer back. In the 2nd round, Cotto scored a knockdown by an apparent body shot as he continued to toy with Gomez. In round 3 a tremendous punch to the liver caused Gomez to go down once again just as the bell rang. By the end of the 5th round, Gomez eye began to close and the Ring Doctor advised the fight be stopped.

And when he was asked about fighting Floyd Mayweather, Cotto responded:
“I cannot promote my career, im just a boxer. I’m not scared of anybody.”
Magarito KO’s Cintron in Rematch with Liverpunch!
In other welterweight action, Antonio Magarito (36-5, 26 KOs) scored a KO in the 6th round over IBF champ Kermit Cintron (29-2, 27
KOs
). The constant body work by Magarito proved to be too much for the Champ and landed a tremendous liverpunch himself to end the fight. This win sets up a potential match with Cotto in July of this year.
“I knew that he is a strong fighter, but I knew in the 2nd round Cintron slowed up a bit. I prepared excellently and I came to do it again like last time. I started a bit slow in my last fights and I learned from my loss. Cotto is one of the best Welters and what Bob Arum wants to do, we will be ready.”
