Guzman wins 12-round split decision vs. Funeka E-mail
LAS VEGAS -- Joan Guzman earned a 12-round split decision victory over Ali Funeka in the vacant IBF lightweight championship Saturday night, but could not claim the crown after weighing in 9 pounds over the 135-pound limit.

Guzman (30-0-1), who is 6-inches shorter than Funeka, won on two scorecards, 114-113 and 116-111.  Read on for more...

Funeka (30-3-3), who could have claimed the championship with a victory, won 114-113 on the other card.

The two fought to a draw in November.

Guzman, from the Dominican Republic, knocked Funeka down with a right to the chin in the sixth round. Funeka, from South Africa, was up within a 3 seconds. Guzman followed with several body shots in the round.

Guzman has soo much skill but time is ticking for this guy. i think he's gona end up as a could've, should've fighter that wont accomplish much. That's too bad.

this fight was a disgrace to boxing .guzman needs be suspended and fined ..guzman pulled a mayweather didnt even try and make weight cause he knew if came in at 135 funeka would have beat his ass. guzman came in 2 weight divisions heavy he needs to have license suspended.funeka should not lose his contender status at leighweight cause he fought a welterweight that night. if the only penalty for a fighter that comes in over weight is a fine why bother makin weight they rather have a gaurenteed win...boxing is going to shit and its fighters like him making it worst ..FUCK BITCH ASS GUZMAN. actin like he was great for beating a fighter 2 divisions below him..wow now think of it def did do a mayweather
