Juan Manuel Marquez Stops Katsidis In A War!

Juan Manuel Marquez successfully defended his WBA and WBO lightweight titles, stopping Michael Katsidis at 2:14 of the ninth round Saturday night at MGM Grand Garden Arena.

In the ninth round, Marquez (52-5-1, 38 KOs) landed 36 punches to nine for Katsidis (27-3, 22 KOs). Referee Kenny Bayless halted the bout after Katsidis was hurt by several combinations.

After eight rounds, the three judges had the 37-year-old Marquez leading, 78-74, 76-75, 77-74.

Katsidis knocked down Marquez with a left hook in the third, but Marquez rallied to take the lead before finishing off Katsidis in the ninth.

I knew this would be fight of the year, this was my most anticipated fight of this year and it didn't disappoint. Amazing fight and well i think they shouldn't have stopped it there, Katsidis has taken worse punishment and continued, there were less than 40 secs left on that round. I say it could have been a toss up still cause Katsidis was making a good comeback he was winning the last 3 rounds. Both showed incredible heart and skill, it was an instant classic, next interesting fights for Marquez i would say are a 3rd with Pacroid or against Juanma @ 130 or Bradley @ 140.
