Liverpuncher Exclusive: Bernard Hopkins: Cotto “has 100,000 Miles” while Pacquiao “is a Ferrari!” E-mail
Future Hall of Famer Bernard Hopkins spoke Exclusively to Liverpuncher.com about his thoughts to the upcoming superfight Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto!  We asked him if he feels Pacquiao will be outsized vs Miguel Cotto…hear what the Executioner, from his own words has to say! “With Pacquiao's speed and Cottos ..." Read on for  more.

wear and tear from the Margarito fight, I don’t think he has ever recovered,” he said to Livepruncher.com.  Hopkins explained to us that fighters only have a certain amount of mileage on their odometers much like a car and Miguel Cottos odometer is nearly at 100,000 miles!

“Its called mileage on a car, if a car has 100,000 miles on it but it looks good, but this other car, that’s a Ferrari, Pacquiao, that has 10,000 miles on it” is what this fight comes down to.  He also gave us his thoughts on who should be Trainer of the Year!  Listen to him break down Cotto vs. Pacquiao:

Hopkins refers to the KO loss of Cotto by the Mexican native Antonio Margarito in 2008.  Cotto has since fought Joshua Clottey to what many people say was a tougher than expected decision win over 12 rounds.  Many fans and experts have hinted that Cotto has not fully recovered from the loss to Margarito.
Another topic which has come up is Cotto’s stamina in the later rounds.  There have been hints of him losing steam with his punches when approaching the late championship rounds.  We’ll see how it all plays out on the 14th of Nov!

Hopkins makes a good point. COtto does LOOK good on 24/7, running the track and doing road work, but we got to look UNDER THE HOOD.
Pacquiao has been in SOME wars but nothing like the WWII Cotto went through w Margarito.

Wrong again Bernard! The last two times you made some predictions, both ended up in the opposite directions. You predicted that Oscar will dismantle Manny and you also predicted that Hatton will KO Manny....you better not make any prediction because we know you know nothing in predicting boxing outcomes. Please just stay as a boxer rather than flirting to become a forecaster. Your comparison between Cotto and Manny is way above reality and if Cotto will win against Manny, again this would be the third time you got it wrong Bernie. smilies/grin.gif smilies/grin.gif smilies/grin.gif

Wrong Ponzi, wrong. BHop has made a good point in that interview because he has learned his lesson from the two mistakes he had done, disregarding PacMan's power and speed and not to mention heart. Now, he's accepting it and embracing wholeheartedly.

Regardless of the outcome of his forthcoming fight against Welterweight Champion Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico on November 14, 2009 in Las Vegas, USA, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao’s place in boxing history as one of the all-time greats has been established.

My new book title "Manny Pacquiao - The Greatest Fighter of All Time" tries to bring in fodder to the debate of who is the greatest boxer of all time, and presents both qualitative and quantitative sides to that debate. It applies three major criteria, namely: (1) The List, valued at 30 percent; (2) The Belt, 50 percent; and (3) The Win, 20 percent.

The List defers to the analysis and opinion that went into three of boxing’s most respected chroniclers—namely: The Ring Magazine, Associated Press and ESPN.

But since these lists have been published years ago, The List also makes use of Ring Magazine’s Annual Pound-For-Pound list, which was published for the first time in 1989.

The Belt puts premium on the titles won by a boxer in several weight divisions. The more championships a boxer gets to win in different weight classes, the higher his rating goes. Bonus points need to be added, though—boxing supposedly being the model of fairness in sports—to those who (1) were active when there were less divisions, and (2) won their first championships at the higher levels (say, welterweight).

The Win presents stories behind The Belt. It uses three sub-criteria, namely, Winning Percentages, KO percentage, and Quality of Opposition. In sum, The Belt and The Win further sieve the rankings of the world’s greatest boxers of all time, according to The List.

In the elite company of boxing legends, The Pacman has risen to become THE GREATEST BOXER OF ALL TIME, pound for pound. Boxing experts say that his feat—starting a professional fighting career at 106 pounds and winning belts at up to 140 pounds—is simply not done. Beating Oscar De La Hoya at 147 pounds, another great champion, left little space for people to dispute his rise to the exalted pinnacle of world professional boxing.

Who is this man? Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao was born 30 years ago to a poor family in Budkidnon, Philippines. There was a time when he almost had nothing except the will to overcome adversity. But what character he’s got. Dedication. Hard work. Heart. Courage. Faith. These traits are bigger than boxing. They describe who he is. He could have been equally successful even if he had a job other than boxing.

This book is his story.

Damn that book! If Pacquiao loses badly in his upcoming fight, the book publisher will no longer publish that book. If you want to publish a historic sports book about Pacquiao you better title that book as "The Man YOU KNOW" sub-titled with "I Just Want to Make People Happy" maybe it would help in selling the book.

Hehehe! I just can't help my self from remembering what happened to Oscar Dela Hoya after he got his statue erected. Dela Hoya just got his ass whooped by midget Manny after that big honor. The same scenario would happen when you have that book printed, Cotto will kick midget Manny's ass. Very cruel world but that is just the reality.

I think Bernard analysis is wrong when you count overall miles on both boxers. Saying Cotto is 100K car vs Pacman 10K Ferrari. If you know their records you can see Pacman has 47 fights and Cotto 31. Yes, Cotto got a beating with Margo and had a difficult fight with Clottey, but who would look good with a tough cookie like big Clottey? That is the problem, people tend to judge a figther with their short-term memories and think they will rollover the competition like trains every time. I don't think Pacman will be able to capitalize on speed that much since Cotto usually fairs well with people his same size. It has always been bigger man who gave Cotto trouble. That is probably why the Paul Williams fight was not in the picture of Cotto. Now, Mosley and Judah were very good boxers and probably Mosley can give PacMan a woop like Floyd gave Marquez. So, you will see a Ferrari been destroyed by a Metro Bus on Nov 14.

cotto is not the same guy who beat shane mosley. he will try and counter pacquiao the way JMM did and it may end up working.

but late in the fight i expect pacquiao to have more gas and less miles on the car like b hops said.

Listen Bottom line Cotto is no Hatton and is no DLH. Cotto by KO same style he did another lefty in Judah. Cotto is a great boxer and people counting him out will find that out Nov 14th.

In this fight the fans win. This is a real fight not some stunt. Here you have two that dont even think in terms of fear, These are two of the best so evenly matched and speed vs. power. I hope it goes the distance cuz you know it will be like a Rocky Movie.

There's a few things that don't let Manny still get to the "Greatest Boxer of all Time", Manny is one of my favorite boxers, BUT, THE Greatest Boxer of all Time- Ray Robinson- didnt put up lame excuses when going up against bigger guys (like weight restrictions for example), and one little detail on Manny's heart, he has alot of heart, BUT it's very limited, only 2 times Manny has gone down to the canvas he never got up.

You cannot compare Judah to Manny just because they are lefties...that is where the similarities end. Zab is a potshotting counterpuncher, while Manny is an ultra-aggressive, offensive-minded stalker.

Miguel will need to dig deep to win this fight and walk through some stormy moments, but there is no doubt that he is all heart. If he can land some big shots, he will stop Manny.

All of these Manny lovers are forgetting one thing: Miguel Cotto can bang, and Manny has never been hit by a puncher like Miguel. This is not Ricky "Get Hit Man" Hatton we are talking about. Cotto will throw back...hard!

and the dust has settled...the midget has won. david had goliath's head as early as round 4, and forced to play on with it as goliath's henchmen didnt beg for mercy. it had to be the referee to stop the fight upto the 12th and last round just to prove to the world... the champ is here.
