I had a persentiment that cotto was going to lose, although I'm puerto rican. I will not take sides because of ethnical reasons. I didn't watch the fight, but my brother told me cotto ran through the whole fight. Manny pacquiao looks great 10-15lbs heavier almost as if he gain all his weight lifting weights. I knew from that time cotto wasn't fucking w/ pacquiao

The whole thing that bothers me is that because HBO gives gift desitions to fighters cuz they are young or undefeted and as a result we get a less competitive fight. Cotto never beat Shane, Cotto never beat Clotty, either of those guys would have been a closer fight than this. They think that they are promoting the younger fighter but they are making the sport less than it could be. Because if the best man wins then you get the best guy in the next fight. If the lesser man wins then you get a less competitive fight in the superfight as a result. Period!

Bench...dont be disrespectful against a proven great boxer and a gracious person like Cotto. He never ducked anyone, fought the best opposition and remained humble even at the top. Wether he beat Mosley and Clottey i think he did but i wont argue. Do you honestly think though, after what you saw last night, that any of them stood a chance with Manny? I dont...Manny is one in 50 years and Cotto was just unlucky to be in his way. Manny right now is simply unstoppable.

Cotto looked bad ass in the first round. I was like daymmmmm, Cotto is going to take it. Then when Cotto tried to open up on Pacman, Pacman smiled and NAILED him. I too think Clottey beat Cotto by 1 point, but the way Pacman beat Cotto you have to give him his due...it was an azz whuppin' I felt sorry for Cotto at the end man. He took so many blows, it was a bloody mess

77 I amm not being disrespectful to Cotto cuz I really like him, what I am saying is the rightful winners could have been more competitive. And to answer your question yes I think him and Shane would have been a pick-em fight and Shane has a real chance, the only two that have a chance at welter is the Punisher or Sugar; however youll see what I mean when Shane gets a hold of Berto in january. I almost called this fight perfect, I said: "Manny would actully hit harder then Cotto and make him look confused in spots with combo punching, and that Cotto would bleed alot. The only suprise for me was Cotto making it out of the 8th.I also never called Cottos heart into question, I was reffering to HBOS shotty judgeing in fights.

First of all who names themself 355x6 bench? A you are a meathead? and also you are talking out of your ass. Cotto Beat Mosley and Clottey. The Clottey fight coulda went either way but he did get the kock down and cotto did what he had to do to win. You really went out on the limb saying Cotto was "going to bleed alot". Cotto earned the right to be in that fight and also last time I checked HBO just broadcasts the fights and their job is to hype it up. Everyone agreed before hand that this was FOTY. It's easy to make "predictions" after the fight. Miguel Cotto is a warrior and deserved the fight where actually pac was the challenger. The fight was a success

You're funny Bench. Too bad you DON'T call the shot. Well, Cotto said that he will use his jab to avoid Manny's vantage point. Manny is smaller, and his arms are shorter than Cotto. But Manny intentionally provoked Cotto to hit him with his "Super body shot" by stationary defense. I'm sure you noticed it when Pacman even leaned on the ropes and let Cotto beat him. That's what Manny wants, a close combat. Cotto forgot about his strategy and fell for it. Quit being emotional Bench. That was a good fight, and Cotto's respect for Manny will never be the same again.

The fight went as i thought it would (as i said in the other thread). i knew that Cotto was going to be able to land on Manny.. he's been in there with fast guys before and handled him self pretty well... Judah, Mosely. what i didn't count on at all was Manny being able to handle those punches as well as he did.. i thought that early punishment was going to slow Manny down and was going to make the rest of the fight competitive but Manny just kept coming. Looks like in this interview that Manny admits that Cotto did hurt him but he was just able to suck it up and keep coming forward. I wonder if it was a bit of their plan to get Cotto to be a little over confident early and open up and get off his game plan.. when he was behind that jab things were working out REALLY good for him.. when he got roped into mixing it up with Manny that's when thing went down hill really fast. Cotto seriously needs to work on his head movement.. brutal!!

so what do we learn from this fight
a) Manny has ample welterweight whiskers
b) Manny, although heavy handed in combinations doesn't have devastating one punch power against a legit welterweight
c) his speed translates at welter
d) Manny can still be countered if you're accurate and have any minimal speed at all
e) if you have any brains in your head at all you stay behind a jab and work your magic from their... let Manny have to come in and you counter him.. if you try to come after Manny you are dog food.

After seeing this fight, and seeing just how much Cotto was able to counter and connect on Manny when he was running his game plan.. it actually makes me even MORE confident that Mayweather makes easy work of Pacquiao.. look at Manny's face.. it was messed up. Mayweather is disciplined, and can stick to a game plan.. not concerned about machismo and pleasing the crowd.. he's much faster and smarter with astronomically greater defense.. Mayweather would have no problem at all staying behind a jab and countering Pacquiao ALL NIGHT LONG. and unlike Cotto, he has the conditioning and discipline to do it.. i think it might be a pretty boring fight, but i think Mayweather beats Pacquiao in a similar style to Marquez.

And i don't think it's Mayweather that will be thinking twice about a fight with Pacquiao, i think it's Arum who's going to be thinking twice.. see after the marquez fight he started talking about how mayweather should fight mosely and cotto and stopped talking about a match up with mayweather and pacquiao?

I think Mosely will take Pacquiao too.. speed, power, smarts, and better endurance.. also mosely likes to mix it up so this would be an AWESOME dog fight.. can you imagine Mosely and Pacquiao going head to head.. that the most exciting fight out there, even though everyone wants to see mayweather - pacquiao... i honestly don't thing manny people want that fight at all or a mosely fight.. the party will likely come to a crashing halt after either of those fights... and of course the giant pink elephant in the room that no one seems to want to talk about paul williams.. to me if you consider want to consider yourself top of the welter weight heap.. you need to be calling out paul williams.. i don't see mosely, pacquiao, mayweather, cotto, berto, clottey... any of these guys even mentioning williams and no interviewer anything challenging them about fighting him... you see all these people saying that floyd should fight this guy or that guy.. why not the same for williams? williams will clean out and dispose of all of those guys (mayweather would be interesting) if given a chance... but all these guys are ducking him and no one says PEEP.. what a scam!

THIS TIME HE HAS NO REASON TO REJECT A FIGHT TO THE LEGITIMATE NUMBER 1 P4P CHAMPION. HE WANTS 65-35 IN FAVOR OF HIM? WHAT THE F*CK!!! A COWARD IS ALWAYS A COWARD.. NDESTRUKT - step away from the crack pipe man! just say NO... LOL...

Mayweather's sole reason for coming out of retirement was to fight Pacquiao!!! took Marquez as a tune up... wanted to show that he could completely dominate the guy that gave pacquiao fits... good to add drama and negotiating points for the fight. c'mon, only a crackhead would think that mayweather leaves that money on the table.. that fight will happen.. and as Arum says.. mayweather only takes fights he KNOWS he can win.. the negotiations have to start somewhere.. you're a fool if you don't throw out a number that you're not going to get as a starting point.. think man!

mayweather will win a clinical, surgically precise win over pacquiao i have no doubt in my mind over that and as i said, seeing pacquiao's face, broken eardrum etc after fighting cotto and seeing how much a guy like cotto who basically has NO defense whatsoever, is slower, not as smart, less adaptable, less movement, less endurance was able to touch pacquiao.. mayweather will pitch a virtual shut out against pacquiao.. people are going to be surprised at just how easy mayweather will beat pacquiao.. mayweather has speed, movement, defense better than anyone in boxing, precision and he rarely gets hit but also has a chin and pretty good power.. but he doesn't even need power.. he can just outbox pacquiao all night long...

anyway.. i'm be back to call you the fool you are when the fight gets made... you don't even seem to think the fight will get made.. .. and then i'll be back when mayweather wins to laugh again when mayweather makes easy work of pacquiao... remember when spinks made easy work of mayorga and everyone's jaw dropped.. same thing will happen after this fight.. you're just caught up in the hype.. technical-speed beat unorthodox-speed... we see it time and time again..

i'm not saying mayweather - pacquiao will be boring for anyone who appreciates the sweet science.. i do and i will enjoy it, but it will be a chess match, not a head to head punch up if that's what you are looking for...

Great Argument the problem with it is no one can answer the question if Manny can make Floyd fight by force. If Manny chases him all night (which he can) he wont be hurt by Floyd at all, he can beat him against the ropes the way Oscar did but the diffrence is he wont tire and he hits harder then Oscar. Floyd is better than alot of people think I just think Pacs darting style to the contrary gives Floyd fits. Floyd dont use his jab consistent enough to offset Pac, he dropps it and throws leads rights and potshots with great accuracy. It will mos def be worth waching though.

Bench, look at Mayweather v Marquez.. mayweather used his jab as his main weapon, as long as he needed to.. then and only then did he go to the right hand leads and pot shotting that we are so familiar with.. mayweather is technically sound.. he can use any technique he needs to.. he hadn't used a jab consitently like that for like, forever and then he needs to use it against Marquez and BOOM, it's his major weapon in the fight until Marquez was effectively de-toothed.

people seem to conveniently forget that mayweather fought oscar and fresh strong 154lbs.. pacquiao fought him at an incredibly weakened, melted down and drained 147lbs.. i don't know if pacquiao hits harder than a 154lb oscar.. but i'd be willing to bet it's pretty damn close and i'd think that the 154lb oscar probably does hit harder than pacquiao if i had to choose.

the point is that mayweather does whatever it takes and he has the skills to be able to do it too.. if he needs to counter behind a jab all night.. he'll just do it... if pacquiao is hurt or not hurt it doesn't much matter... mayweather if fit and fast and technically sound enough to do that all night if he has to.. and his dispostition is that he just doesn't care what it looks like or what anyone thinks if that's what he needs to do he will do it.. he is just not the type to get all crazy and take chances to please anyone..

the other thing is look at the guys that really pressured him and were somewhat threats.. corrales, hatton KO's, TKO.. corrales's he messed corrales's face up (RIP)... mayweather steps up his game even higher when pushed.. if you're not really a threat he lets you live and just takes the fight, come at him and pressure him and you are outa there.. like i said, he just does whatever it takes to win.. people take mayweather decisions as a sign that he is somewhat weaker, but it's a sign of strength and dominance.. it means that he's so superior that it's not worth it to take you out.. i don't think roach is going to be stupid enough to really send manny in on the attack.. this will be a sure way for manny's defeat, that's what mayweather want, he's a counter puncher and needs something to counter off of.. but he's not going to be able to box with mayweather either.. he'll lose that battle too.. i just can't see a way for manny to win.. styles make fights and he just doesn't have a style that can beat mayweather.. in a way he's tailor made for mayweather.

Doc you seem to know what's up, but you did go too far when you talked about mayweather's superiority or shall i say everyone else's inferiority. Trust me there's a reason as of why he retired when the welters were heated. And yes $$man's reason that he came out of retirement was to fight pacquiao, but i bet you he didnt think that pacman was such a threat to his umbleshided record as much as it is now. POW! other than that, there was good stuff in your article.
I also agree that Mosley Vs pacman would be much more crowd pleasing than the mayweather vs pacman. I think after the cotto fight we can see pacman's defects and bad havits that either of these two very smart fighters can exploit. I believe that cotto needs to get a real trainer that can take his career up to another level. This dude can really fight the 4 rounders perfectly! he should stick to that instead. BTW i also think that he lost the mosley fight.

Mayweather is a freak Doc i agree. He seems to do what he has to. I agree on a lot of ur points. ppl that say that he has no power and can only counter punch obviously never watched corrales or gatti. but the part that i think you are way off in is the fact that manny is tailor made for floyd. i think that what we have been looking for is the fighter that will come after floyd. yes he made marquez look silly but marquez is just a slower LIGHTER guy that fights a style that floyd is king at so you can't make a comparison on who did what to who. cuz if we do that we'd say what manny did to two similar opponents as floyd (destroyed them) boxing is all about matchups that's y the punisher is so often ducked. plus the fact that he won't get payed cuz he refuses to knock guys out. as far as these ppl that want to put floyd as an all time great. he's gotta get a lot more fights under his belt. mayweather pac would be a huge pay day and a great fight. i'm takin manny but that's cuz i'm bias towards him and think he's the greatest thing that could have happened to the sport in a long time. u never wanted ur money back after a pac fight. and although it has nothing to do w a boxer's skill, an exciting and dynamic fighter with the feats manny has accomplished, that's a legend. floyd's got a lot to prove still

doctorspoc you have a lot of valid points! Good to see someone on here making predictions with actual boxing knowledge and not their emotions. If Manny can't knock Floyd out he will at least need a couple of knockdowns to take the decision. I've always said that Pacquiao has the best chance at beating Mayweather but it's still only a punchers chance. True Pacquiao made Oscar quit but do you honestly think that Floyd's fight with Oscar would have been as close if it were at 147 also? Mind you Floyd couldn't even reach the 154lb weight limit (weighing in at 150). The gloves are also heavier at 154 than they are at 147. I do however give Pacquiao slightly more credit in his destruction of Hatton because he beat Hatton in his own weight class. So that makes them even imo. Also everyone is saying how Pacquiao started his career at 106 when he was 16, but what they fail to realize is that Floyd also weighed 106 when he was 16 (they are only a year or 2 apart) but the only difference is Pacquiao turned pro at 16 while Floyd was training for the Olympics. Now don't get me wrong, Mayweather does need a slice of humble pie and I understand that is why everyone is pulling for him to lose but this fight will not be a walk in the park for either fighter. They need each other that is why the split will be 50/50 I just find it disheartening when I see comments like Floyd will run the whole fight or he'll ask for 70/30 or he'll want the fight to be at 150 or 160. I just hope that whoever wins gets their just due. And that is being recognized as the best fighter of our era hands down!
