After his cut vs. Amir Khan Barrera has doctors orders not to fight for at least 8 months.  This will mean not fighting till the end of the year or at least till early 2010. The cut was big and deep with at least 30 + stitches.  Barrera lost via technical decision in 5 rounds of action.  Barrera who currently resides in Guadalajara will continue to fly to Mexico City to do his cable commentating on the weekends.

The old warrior should now hang it up ... he's proved all he needs to & deserves the respect he's earned over the years.

Barrera has had a great career and will be remembered fondly. Why is he still fighting? Poor money management? Most likely pride, he want's to go out on top but I don't see that happening with the level of competition nowadays. I just hope that if he continues fighting he doesn't get seriously hurt.
