Margarito vs. Pacquiao, should it happen? E-mail
Blog by Swodogg swodogg - Last year there were posts up in the forums, and fans rumbling “what if Oscar de la Hoya fought Manny Pacquiao?”

Like many people, I read the posts in the forums and said, this is crazy talk.  No way, no how, no chance because Oscar is just too big I thought.  Plus Mayweather had been running his mouth about wanting a rematch with Oscar in 2008.   Click for More

We all figured that "Money" Mayweather would come off his win vs. Hatton and take a lucrative rematch with the Golden Boy in 2008.  Mayweather decided to "retire" and the Golden Boy was left with no dancing partner in 2008.

Then out comes Antonio Margarito and pulls off the upset vs. Miguel Cotto.  I remember seeing the post fight interview and Margarito was asked who he wanted next and he would say “Well, Oscar said he wanted the winner of Cotto vs. Margarito" and there was Margarito, the Winner, ready and willing.

 So what happened?

When Margarito pulled off the upset, it was as though Oscar thought he was Casper the Ghost.  What happened to the promise to fight the winner of Cotto vs. Margarito?  Well, we all know what happened next….  The Pacman stepped up and handled the business himself - in the ring.

Now Margarito is 30 years old, 5’ 11”, fighting mostly at 147lbs, with (37-5) record. Oscar is 35 years old, 5’ 10 ½” fighting mostly at 150lbs+ the last 6 years, (39-6) record.

Oscar is 5 years older, has a couple of fights more than Margarito and the Pacman pulverized him. How would he do against a guy like Margarito?

It would be a great storyline…..Manny Pacquiao taking on YET another top Mexican fighter.  He’s already taken out Morales, Barrera and Marquez.  The "Three Mex-keteers."  The last one left would be Margarito!

I’m not saying Manny would win, but I think it would be a great fight.  Margarito is as tough as they come and Manny is lb4lb the best in the world and lightning quick.  It would be a true test.  I would love to see Mayweather vs. Pacquiao as well, but as a second choice why not Margarito?

Margarito has his hands full with Mosley and possibly Cotto later in June.  Pacquiao has Hatton 90% done but who else....Marquez III?  Guzman? Valero?  Guzman and Valero are virtually unknowns to casual boxing fans and would need some building up.

We’ll see what happens. Remember how “Crazy” we all thought it was when people were talking about the “Golden Boy” vs. “Pacman.”  It turned out to be not so crazy after all.

No. Simple as that. All these fantasy match ups remind me of the old days of bloodsports when they would throw all kinds of critters in an arena with each other just to see what would happen. Lets get back to basics.

sounds like the same talk I heard when De La Hoya was about to fight pacman. Im not sure if manny could handle the constant pressure of Antonio, but he does have the legs to move and the quick hands to fustrate marg for at least a few rounds. Raygun, why are you making excuses for Manny's wins? GIVE THE MAN SOME CREDIT, he whooped the great Mexican fighters of this era. He beat all of their asses! Margarito has......um......um..........a good chin. head and foot movement? no. speed? no. one punch power? no. I hope someone knocks his ass out, why doesnt he fight Williams or Clotty???? His day will come soon. Mark my words

everlast...it seems like u need to watch the marquez vs. pacquiao fights again! dynamita has his ticket and the whole world knows it! figure this out man, manny comes forward with his signature 1-2 combo, margarito will meet his ass right in the center and pop his fkn head off! manny is great, no doubt, but he aint fkn superman! its sickening how cats stay stuck on margarito not fighting pw and clottey, he beat clottey, broken hands? guess who broke 'em!? and if pw has so much balls he should've given Indio his well deserved rematch! better yet y doesn't he fight maravilla?! por que es culo el wey!

LOL yeah i got to say that dipsta took the words out my mouth, margarito already beat clottey and fought williams to a close decision (no shame in losing that)

but pacquiao vs margarito would be interesting. margarito as big a fan as i am, he is slow as hell. speed kills. pacquiao would probably beat him.

i think oscar should have fought margarito at 154 instead of pacquiao at 147 that is for sure.

Give Indio his rematch? He blasted him out in one round Dipsta! Who wants to see that? C'mon playa, there is no market for a third match at all. Pacquiao-Margarito would be interesting... for as long as it lasts. Tony doesn't need Clottey because he won, but he DOES need Williams to erase that blemish from his record. If he wins that fight, then there is nothing anyone can tell him. He would have beaten the best welterweight out there for a career high payday! I don't understand why no one wants this fight! C'mon the best versus the best. Lets make it happen Captain!

Clottey got beat, but Im a HUGE margarito fan I make no bones about it (see my avatar) smilies/smiley.gif I was really nervous those first few rounds vs. Clottey. Margo was gettin beat to the punch the first 3 rounds and the Santos fight was tough to watch too. Margarito is a tough SOB, as tough as they come. I think it would be a good fight. Pacman can go 30 rounds and would not slow down.

he did get balsted! no doubt in that! but just like Indio immediately gave pw his rematch for taking his donut, regardless of how he beat him Indio deserves the 3 fight! Indio was man enough to beat pw's ass, then gets hammered in the rematch which he gladly gave him, and man enough to tell him that he made the mistakes, and that he wanted another crack at him! its this simple, pw was looking for someone to fight his ass right!? Indio never ran, PW did!!

about the margarito vs. pacquiao, its not that hard to solve, marquez listened to nacho and beat him! move to his right and counter his ass!! pacquiao wants a fight thats exactly what he'll get in SIETE MARES!

I don't know if any network would pick up Williams-Quintana 3, but I know P-Will ain't scared of someone he beat in one round! Thats like saying Tony is scared of Cotto, or Manny is scared of Oscar. I ain't gonna hate on Tony though, because Mosley is gonna be a WAY stiffer test than most think. I just could do without the Cotto fight. Its gonna be Chavez-Taylor 2 all over again! Forgetaboutit!

Raygun, you are making Manny's wins seem anything but legit, and thats fine if you believe that but he did beat just about everyone put in front of him, regardless of the circumstances and hes never backed down from anyone. Anyways, my whole point was that you dont really have a strong argument that slowman would just roll over Pacquiao. i think it would be a great fight. And you talk like Pacmans team doesn;t want the fight, how do you know bro, are u on their team? Pacman has worked his way to the top and he now has earned the right to pick money fights. SLOWMAN is no money fight compared to a Hatton or MoneyMay. Margarito is slow, lathargic, and boring in my opinion. Im not a big fan of watching someone get punched in the face and not have enough skills to do anything about it. Dude is gonna be brain dead by time hes 40. But Im just expressing my opinion.

Really Dipsta? I couldn't tell you cared for Quintana Banana... haha Here's my two cents. Margarito needs to fight Paul Williams again if he wants to be considered great. Now, as much as me and Babyface are starving for that match, Margarito doesn't have to fight PW right away. I can understand , if not condone, making as much money as you can in the sport. Even though Williams would give Margarito the biggest pay day of his career, if Margo beats Mosley and Cotto, and Williams beats Winks, that is the perfect marination for a salivating rematch between the two! I find it kind of sad that Williams won the first fight and now he needs a rematch to get recognition. It will all come down to the two guys fighting each other. Most likely at 154.

Now to Pacquiao vs Margarito smilies/wink.gif I think Pac has got a shot of beating Margarito. They both have amazing stamina, but Manny has tons of speed. If Margo can land to the body early or mid fight Manny is in trouble. If Manny can mix it up and get in and out Margos loosing a decision. What about Pacquiao vs Paul Williams?? haha

It seems pretty obvious to me that the best fight out there is Margarito vs. Williams.....I know the fans of both sides want the fight, I know Williams wants the fight.....Why doesn't Margarito? Wasn't he offered like four milli? How much is he getting for the Shane fight?

i believe h'es getting a bit more than 2mil! not sure tho! i go back to the same thing on this tho, y didn't paul williams give margarito the immediate rematch when margarito asked for it!? instead he had to go fight golden johnson and kermit cintron again just to get his crack at cotto! i just put this together but i dont think paul williams likes rematches unless they are to his convenience! but u are right, that is the fight that we all want!!

Pacquiao vs Margarito this is a great challenge for the both of them. Both are at the peaks of their career. Antonio is good, but Manny has already proven that he is unbeatable, fearless, skillful and a great giant killer. Antonio is the last great Mexican world champion standing. When Manny beats Margarito like other great Mexican champions, he will be considered the best in the world. With this fight there is no question that Manny will shatter Oscars vs Floyd's record ppv of 2.44 million. Its time to shock the world again. I would think that Pacquiao would take early rounds with his speed and proven ability to get inside bigger men with footwork and head movement. However Pacquiao has been hurt by fighters with far less power than Margarito like Juan Manuel Marquez and eventually Manny would slow down or Antonio would catch him and overwhelm the smaller man. I haven't seen margarito fights but If he's that good. I don't think pacman will back down a fight against margarito. Pacquiao is the kind of fighter who likes to fight stronger opponents. He likes to be the underdog. Just like when he first fought barrera when he (barrera) was on his prime (2003).The challenge like this will make pacman more excited more motivated to train harder to become the best boxer that he can be.

Could well be fight of the year, so far Pacquiao has shown he has never been afraid to stand toe to toe with every fighter

he has faced.

Could he do this with a man of Margaritto stature.

That alone will be something to behold, small 5’6 guy fighting a 5’11 guy outweighing him by over a stone but the little

guy is not just out boxing him he overpowering him, standing there and trading and making Marg take the backward steps and

folding under the pressure.

Pacquiao is too goo for his own good, if Juan Diaz said he was going to take on Margaritto people would say it was a

mammoth task and Diaz could well take a beating. This is the same Diaz who the same people say Pacquiao ducked.

This is going to be Pacquiao toughest fight and the Pacquiao vs Margarito could be FOTY

Pacquiao vs Margarito Match prefer to be held in Mexico by Manny Pacquiao. This was the choice of Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao to fight in the hometown of his opponent. There are several reason why he choose to fight there. First reason is because that Pacquiao discovered that he has a fan base in Mexico. Another reason is that he can save a lot of money in tax when he fight in Mexico instead in United States which will turn to a huge income to him.

Margarito is a cheater and shouldn't be allowed to fight. As far as I am concerned he should be banned and in jail for assault. I hope he gets his ass handed to him. The cheater will get his ass handed to him from Pacman, just as Mosley did.
