Skills: Both fighters are late
bloomers.
Martinez
only scored 13 knockouts in his first 31 fights, but in his last 15 fights has
scored 13
Kos.
Martinez
skills have matured over time since his first loss to Antonio Margarito. Cintron has improved steadily as well, but Cintron’s
loss to Margarito was more recent and he simply hasn’t had the time to grow
much since then.
Edge:
Martinez
Power: While
Martinez has scored several knockouts lately,
he doesn’t have that one punch knockout ability many fighters have. Cintron on the other hand, can stop a fighter
cold with one punch. Have a look at what
he did to Walter Mattysse and you will be convinced.
Edge: Cintron
Speed: Cintron has good speed but at
times gets his feet tangled up.
Martinez however has more
speed than many of the fighters in this weight class. And its not just the quickness of his hands,
the man is also fleet of foot. See this
video of him versus Jordan but don’t blink because you will miss him!
Edge:
Martinez
Defense: Southpaws are usually hard to find
and
Martinez is
no exception. He has been able to use quick
feet and athletic ability to stay away from harm. He did it well against Margarito, where as
Cintron was getting hit with everything in the book against the Tijuana
Tornado. This one is an easy
choice.
Edge:
Martinez
Experience: Both fighters came up the ranks
the hard way. But Cintron got his start
later in life as he dabbled in other sports like wrestling.
Martinez
has been fighting his way to the top for many more years and has 301 rounds
under his belt compared to Cintron’s 140
Edge:
Martinez
Chin: Cintron can hit like a mule, but
he has the chin of a poet. And in the
second Margarito fight, we saw that Cintron doesn’t have a cast ironed liver
either.
Martinez has proven durable since the Margarito loss.
Edge:
Martinez
Conditioning: Neither fighter has ever shown
fatigue in a major fight. They should
both be coming into the ring ready for a full 12 rounds.
Edge: Even
Wear-and-tear: While Cintron has been stopped
twice, he has never really sustained much lasting punishment in the ring.
Martinez
also hasn’t had a classic war that would take away much from his game.
Edge: Even
Outcome:
Martinez is very close to being the complete
package. However he just hasn’t truly
been battled tested. Cintron will be a
good measuring stick to see how he rates compared to the elite of the
division. As for Cintron, he will be
moving up in weight class as well as fighting class. Cintron can easily beat fighters of the
Matthysse class but
Martinez
is at a whole other level. Cintron’s
best chance is to land something big on
Martinez
early. Other than that, I see
Martinez using his quick
feet and hands to pick apart Cintron and stop him in the late to middle
rounds.
Prediction:
Martinez by round 9
