Mayweather vs Pacquiao - The Pros And Cons Of Each Fighter E-mail
Blog by Tony Tig (tonytig) tonytig - Waking up every morning these days is almost like Christmas, especially with all the crazy things happening in the boxing world. There has been word that the fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather might be indeed taking place March 13th 2010.

I think it's time to officially break down the pros and cons of both fighters and see who really has the upper hand in this fight.

Lets Start with the Challenger Floyd Mayweather….read on for more.

Although Floyd has painted himself as the "black sheep" of boxing his skills are anything but;  However here are the pros and cons for Floyd and what he has to do to beat Manny Pacquiao.

Pros: Ring Intelligence,Hand Speed,Defense, Stamina, Punching Accuracy, chin, counter punching

Cons: Slow Starter, Jab is inconsistent, Tendency to throw one punch at a time

Floyd's Pros far outweigh his cons because he is arguably the most fundamentally sound boxer today. In order to beat Manny, Floyd cannot let any of his cons show up that night.

Pacquiao has a tendency to come right out of the corner looking to make a statement and if Floyd starts at the same pace he did against Ricky Hatton, he's going to have a long night.

Miguel Cotto who recently lost to Pacquiao via 12 round KO started the first two rounds utilizing his jab which served as an early formula for beating Pacquiao but with nothing following the jab it didn't keep Manny from coming forward with 3 and 4 punch combinations, so Mayweather is going to have to mix in 2,3,4, punch combinations in order to disrupt Pacquiao's rhythm.

If Mayweather can avoid getting caught with one of Manny's vanishing punches and keep the fight at his pace which at times will include pot shotting he will cruise to a unanimous decesion.

Manny "Pac-Man" Pacquiao, considered by many the best fighter in the world is up against his biggest challange in Floyd Mayweather how does he stack up against him.

Pros: Speed, Punching Power, Body Movement,Chin, Athletisim, Determination

Cons: Defense,Lack of Patience, No Head Movement, counter punching,

Manny's keys to winning lie in the hands of trainer Freddie Roach. Pacquiao has done an excellent job of following the instructions of the man he calls his "Master".

Even though Pac has a lot of work to do when it comes to defense, head movement and counter punching, his explosive speed and punching ability more then make up for it. To beat Floyd, Manny is going to have to keep Mayweather on his heels the entire fight. He can do that by moving side to side and punching from angles that will cause Floyd to cover up in his philly shell style defense leaving Mayweather with a small window for counter punching. If he can do this he has a great chance of defeating the Undefeated fighter.

If this fight does indeed take place, there is no doubt that Floyd's boxing skills will pose a problem for Manny, while Pacquiao's speed and agression will be a challenge for the man who's nickname is Money.

It is the ultimate clash of contrast, and in the end the man who is delcared the winner will be able to answer any doubter and critic who thought different. The question is who will it be?

I believe that Manny Paquiao will definetly try to put pressure on Floyd Mayweather early. I see Manny Paquiao trying to dart in and out looking to show his hand speed early trying to land the left hand. But Floyd is an exellent counter puncher with an underrated chin. Floyds all around ring generalship is superior to that of Manny Paquiao not to mention his superior defense. When Juan Manuel Marquez found that Manny Paquiao could no longer hurt him with his straight left hand,Juan Marquez began to out box Manny P. and in my eyes he won rds. 7-12.In the rematch,he totally won that fight convicingly but it was a draw. I see Floyd Mayweather Jr. dominating Manny P.as the rounds pile up.Floyd's hand speed will start to take over as Manny P. tries in desperation knock Floyd Out. Floyd will use his 2" height advantage and his 5" reach advantage to outbox someone who "lunges"to land punches without using a jab(and Manny P. does not use a jab at all)Manny P. is still in my eyes a "puffed-up"lightweight,the fights with Oscar,Hatton,Cotto were "fool's gold".Oscar is an aging fighter that dehydrated himself to make a 145lb.catch weight which left him totally drained,Ricky Hatton's style was custom made for Manny P.they both are fighters that come right to you without using a jab looking to land their big punches,Miguel Cotto was a beaten up fighter before going into the Manny P. fight,A fighter rarely recovers from the type of beating that Cotto sufferd at the hands of Antonio Margarito. So,for the first time in Manny Paquiao's career he will be facing a fighter with a solid defense and superior hand speed. I cannot see Manny Paquiao beating a Floyd Mayweather jr. Freddie Roach is a good trainer that can get Manny P. in top condition, but Freddie has never been a trainer that can give a fighter a sound strategy, especially when the fighter he's training has had the same style all of his career. I predict Manny Paquiao will bring out the "greatness" in Floyd Mayweather jr. and Floyd will dominate Manny Paquiao, somewhat like the JMM fight.

Pacquiao will give mayweather all he can handle and will get his first loss of his career. Ok...so I will back all this up for all of you...pacquiao faced JMM a did mayweather but when Manny had that fight he was a one handed fighter and barely used his right hand except to paw out a jab and use his straight left...that's a HUGE determining factor in this fight as well as JMM was not comfortable or acclimated fighting at 144 which was rather apparent it was worst than what Oscar looked like against Manny....pacquiao is now a more complete fighter than he was when he faced JMM...mayweather is a great fighter himself but he has never faced anyone with the same if not more speed as well as a rather unique southpaw....just look at how mayweather was bothered by Zab Judah who IMO is a B fighter at best and got caught with some straight lefts which aren't as powerful as Manny...he was rocked by a short counter that wasn't called a knock down...mayweather fights with great ring generalship and fights smart and counters really well as well as being highly accurate....I do not think he can hurt Manny as he loves to get hit and takes a good punch which was rather evident with the cotto fight where many had said cotto is too big and a bigger puncher...and his punches had no effect on Manny which surprised me...mayweather has not been tested like he will in March when they face one another and the same for Manny but its going to be a great fight and will go down in history...I predict Manny takes him out within 8 rounds and does so with his left hand doing some damage...

There's one thing i dont agree on, and thats that Pacman has evolved and improved his only weakness, midfight adjustment, he USED to go by Roach in every fight and he had to wait till the end of the round to sit down and get a new fight plan, BUT in the Cotto fight that never happened, Roach only asked him if he was alright, Manny said yes, and Roach told him "Do what u think is best, this is ur fight", he let Manny fight on his own terms and i was surprised at how the Pacman showed off, so this is gonna be one hell of a night for Floyd.

no bias - the one handed fighter thing is an excuse for the 1st marquez fight, but what about the split decision the second time manny and marquez fought? manny even had a knock down there too and only managed a split decision.. even with the knockdown the fight could have basically gone either way.. and that was at 130 too. that is the only improvement that manny has though.. the two handedness.. every other flaw that he has had from the beginning is still there.. he still has pathetic to non-existant defence.. he comes in hands down with no jab.. he gets hit WAY too much. look at his face in his post fight interview ofter cotto.. swollen, cut, broken ear drumb.. you'd hardly know he won the fight.. pacquiao is there to be hit and cotto got to him LOTS before he got over confident and sucked into going toe to toe instead of just boxing and countering like he was doing..

if you want to know what this fight is going to look like, look at Mosely v Margarito.. a granite chin only last so long before it cracks.. the key to what margarito and pacqiao have going for them is that.. as they take punishment they are also doling it out.. but they take punishment better than the guy they are fighting so in the later rounds the other guy's going to be more worn down than you and then you turn up the volume and he's outa there. the problem that margaritio faced against mosley and also paul williams too (and manny will face against mayweather ) is that he was still taking punishment, but he could hit mosely or williams enough.. so in the later rounds mosely was much stronger than him and the whole thing backfired... williams was able to accelerate in the last round (williams threw 1200+ punches in that fight to margarito's 600.. margarito threw 1600 punches against clottey). pacquiao will not be able to hit mayweather and he'll be getting hit and the 3rd KO of pacquiao is a very real possibility.. i too was surprised at how well manny's chin held up against cottos punches, but if cotto was able to do that without getting hit, pacquiao would have been KO's instead of him.. but cotto got sucked into trading when he should have just boxed.. but cotto's has no head movement/shitty defense so maybe the outcome was inevitable anyway... even if the knockout doesn't happen.. pacquiao will get hit more than he's ever been hit in his life and will not be in any shape to dole out any punishment against mayweather who will be in great shape by the end having not been laid a hand on.. mayweather will make this look very easy..

slick counter punchers give pacquiao fits.. and since marquez they've cherry picked manny's competition to steer him well clear of slick counter punchers.. just slow guys with shitty defense to make pacquiao look as good as possible.. mayweather is a better counter puncher, faster, bigger, stronger.. better in everyway than marquez and marquez gave manny fits.. manny just doesn't have a chance.. he just doesn't have to tool to beat mayweather!

the pacman that faced marquez is the same pacman that faced hatton and faced cotto. there in no differance. if he fought marquez it would be the tight fight. he still leaves his head wide open still has no defence. you see what his face looked like after cotto fight. as far as mayweather goes. he has no flaws. he has a style that no one has been able to figure out. pacman wont. pacman is taylor made for mayweather. all this preasure preasure preasure him talk. that was said about hatton and marquez. marquez and pacman are the same fighter. brother form another mother. easy fight for mayweather. you think marquez was bad? wait and see march 13th.

Mayweather is susceptible to a straight left and if u don't believe watch him against Zab who isn't even on the same level and that gave him fits...he's just lucky that zab can't finish a fight or he could've been shocked...counter puncher Floyd is that but that means he's gonna leave himself opened to be CPI tered as well and a lot of shots pacquiao hits people wit are not seen like that uppercut that dropped cotto...mayweather isn't gonna be ble to pitty pat his way thru this fight he's gonn have to take it...but he can't go backwards the whole fight nor can he place himself on the ropes because that's too dangerous...pacquiao lunges in at times yes but he does tht a lot more once he figures out the timing of the other fighter...Freddie will have him prepared fpr this fight no question....

pac man dont stand a chance. He has the physical ability. But he dosent have the skills to beat floyd...period. Yeah it may begin with pacman throwing alot of punches making the crowd oohh and aw, but in the end mayweather is going to break him down. He is fast but not fast enough. Floyd head movement, defence, and accuracy is too much for him. It will be good to watch though.
