Nacho Beristain says Pacquiao will stop Cotto in 6!
Ignacio
"Nacho" Beristain, was quoted in Primera Hora news as saying Manny Pacquiao will stop Miguel Cotto within
six rounds. Beristain trained Juan Manuel Marquez for two fights with Pacquiao,
and trained Oscar De La Hoya to face Pacquiao as well which gives him a unique perspective on a potential fight with Cotto.
According
to "Nacho" Beristain Cotto has not been the same since he was knocked out by Antonio Margarito. Read on to
hear what he said…
Beristain told Primera Hora, "Cotto remained a little deteriorated
after the fight that he had with Antonio Margarito and to be up against Manny
Pacquiao, with all due respect - since I respect and I admire Puerto Rican
boxing, but I believe that Pacquiao should put him on the canvas in five or six
rounds".
"In
the fight against Clottey, you could see some of the aftermath of what happened
with Margarito. Clotty is not a top-level fighter and nevertheless, in some
moments Cotto was put in predicaments and the punches were affecting him,"
Beristain said.
"Before
he was a fighter with good technique, fast and well cared for, but he doesn't
seem like himself. He changed his coach, changed some of his habits and catches
more punches. I do not believe that it would very advisable to take a fight
like this after changing his main trainer. A fight with Pacquiao is serious
thing. You have to be well prepared. The fight with Pacquiao can be
dangerous."
man i realy respected nacho until now well i mean his opinoin sucks!!wow cotto had i bad fight night because of a cut!!his skills were still up to par !
Obviously anything any promoter, trainer, sportscast member or fan says is only an opinion...
We've all been wrong before and an upset is not new to boxing so it doesn't matter what Nacho Beristain says or thinks on November 14th if thats when the fight takes place we will either be right about our predictions or will be shocked in the outcome never the less I hope its a good fight.
I agree with Nacho, and probably Freddie Roach will say the same thing. Cotto has lost his aura on invincibility. Pacquiao is still getting better and better Cotto doesn't have a chance. He is falling into the same web trap that led to Hatton and De La Hoya defeats. Two or three years ago Hatton, De La Hoya, and Cotto would destroy Pacquiao, but now Pacquiao is winning and Pacquiao will beat up on Cotto 140, 143, 147 it doesn't matter Pacquiao will win easy.
easy huh!? this is some bullshit! where'd all the hardcore's go! u know, the fools that dont just make predictions but the ones that have legitimate explanations and break downs for the fights!! get it together baby!!
While I do believe Manny would beat Cotto it definetly wouldn't be a gimme ala Hatton. I am a huge Cotto (and Manny) fan. But I have to admit I didn't like the way Cotto responded to pressure from Clottey. Sure he pulled out a close decision thanks to the flash knockdown and for whatever reason Clottey decided not to punch the final two rounds. Miguel just looks too vulnerable at times. Whether it is demons from Margarito or changing trainers I am not sure. If he has stretches like that against Manny it would be fatal. But to hear Nacho tell it Cotto is shot which I don't agree with. Now could that be a ploy to discredit Manny's opponent so if Manny does win it isn't as big a deal as it should be. Last time I checked Nacho worked with JMM didn't he and Golden Boy.
why does everybody forget that cotto fought almost the entire fight with a nasty cut that was caused by a headbutt? he beat a guy that could propably whoop pacquiao with one fuckin eye
You know everybody said that clotty was going to kill cotto and what happen. Don't be quick yto jump on the manny van wagon, Cotto is a better boxers and manny as good as he is he has only fought oscar wha was washed up and also hatten who is also not in his league. Cotto is still in his prime and bigger then manny so i will be watching and will see what happens.
Watch the Cotto vs Torres in youtube, you'll see the flaws of Cotto. He can't take the barrage of punches of Torres, it's just that Torres lost steam. Cotto is also vulnerable in pressure fighting, you'll see once you have watched what i told you.
Listen to Beristain's prediction's. Nacho has the inside track on what really happened to ODLH. Did you ever hear him confirm that Oscar was weight drained? No. They deliberately made Oscar small at incremental safe stages to be able to compete with Pacquiao's explosive speed. Even on a his best shape (Oscar was bragging how youthful and powerful he felt)he couldn't beat the smaller man.
I just dont see Cotto winning against Pac even with his large built.. Pac feels indestructible and he feels he can just bulldoze anyone using his speed and power punches from welterweight down.. and i think he's right... nobody today is at par with Pac's heavy armories hence the reason why he's fighting bigger men from higher divisions to even the field and give them a fighting chance of survival at the very least..
cotto needs a lot of counterattack to do..f he can defend well and time pacs punches, then maybe he got a chance of ending d bout at 12..but not ever he can win decisively.
i'm a huge manny fan but i still respect cotto.. i wouldnt be surprised if cotto knock manny down, if not totally knock him out.. but i hope to see a great fight! may the best man wins!
From Diaz, Dela Hoya to Hatton, They all thought they can take manny by sheer power, because they are bigger and stronger. But what happened? they were all surprised in the ring with the lightning speed of Manny that they can not adjust their style of fighting. What will happen to Cotto is just a repetition of what happened to the last three fighters that lost to Manny. Remember that its Freddie Roach and Manny who selected Cotto in this fight---that means that they have seen some flaws with Cotto's fight against Clottey. Beristien is Right--the new trainer of Cotto can hardly be effective after two or three fights it takes time to adjust with the fighter. At present Cotto is learning more by himself because he has a new trainer--compared against Roach,Manny and team Pacquiao that they have been together for several years now.
At the center of attention, boxers Manny Pacquiao, center left, and Joshua Clottey, center right, face off after a news conference at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Wednesday, March 10, 2010. Pacquiao and Clottey square off in a welterweight bout at the stadium this Saturday.
