Pacquiao playing hardball with Hatton – Mayweather to the rescue? E-mail

Hatton claims he wants nothing to do with 50-50 split and team Pacquiao doesn’t want 50-50 either.  (Besides, Pacman has a big team to pay...lol)

This isn’t the first time Pacquiao played hard ball negotiations with other boxing stars.  Remember Pacquiao negotiated for an additional 5 percent take in the purse split between himself and Oscar De La Hoya.  Pacquiao did as impressively in the negotiations as he did in the fight and received the additional 5 percent.

Team Hatton feels 50-50 is a fair deal.  “Ricky brings as much to the table as Manny,” Hatton’s lawyer Gareth Williams told BBC Sport. “Either it is 50/50 or we’ll consider other options. If that’s Manny’s position, there is no fight.”

Now that Pacquiao beat De La Hoya, he has sent a clear message to Ricky Hatton and the boxing world – that he is boxing’s pound for pound fighter and deserve the lion’s share of the revenues.

Gacal told Dyan Castillejo of ABS-CBN that they “will not agree to a 50-50 sharing “ as put forward by Top Rank promoter Bob Arum and Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer.

Gacal told Castillejo they are insisting on a 60-40 share in favor of Pacquiao whom they regard as the bigger draw since he is the world’s No. pound-for-pound fighter and is coming off a spectacular 6th round demolition of Oscar De La Hoya in Las Vegas last December 6.

Businesswise, this is a smart move by Pacquiao since he is not only a big draw, he also has more options than Hatton.

Not many people want to see Hatton vs Mayweather again, but even the casual sports fan wants to see Pacquiao vs. Mayweather.  Team Pacquiao knows this - hence the demand for more money.

The lines have been drawn in the sand, now who is going to blink?  That’s the question.

Who is missing out if this fight doesn’t go through?  Maybe nobody.  The reason – Mayweather.  Team Mayweather has said to the press that they prefer a fight with Pacquiao over a fight with Hatton.

Hatton is a good fighter but lost his major fight in humiliating fashion versus Money Mayweather in 2008.  Yes he did beat Paulie Maligniaggi but that isn’t saying much.  Who else is out there for him?

For Pacquiao we have Joan Guzman, the winner of Marquez vs. Diaz, even Margarito and Cotto are names that have been tossed around as potential opponents. There are plenty of good fights out there.

However, the fight that all true fight fans want to see if Floyd “Money” Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao.  Lets just cut to the chase.  The worlds former #1 Pound For Pound vs. the current holder of the mythical title.

It may need some time to build up but why not make it happen now that the door has been cracked open?

We all have heard this banter 60-40, 40-60 one too many times in boxing lets just move on and put on the fights the fans want to see.

Season 5 is NOW underway
Be sure to cast your prediction in the Liverpuncher Fantasy League!  Margarito vs. Mosley.  Who will win??

I agree that Pacman deserve a lion share over Hatton. Pacman is a bigger draw & #1 P4P Fighter in the Planet today. Hatton should concede & agree to get what he deserve at 40~45% of the pie which I believe could be one of the biggest paycheck of his boxing career on top of previous PBF fight. Once he beat Pacman, he can do the same. But this could be a toughest fight Hatton will surely fail. And, I'll bet all my winnings from previous Dream Match, Pacquiao by KO.

Maybe Hatton considered a % of his early retirement fund in the pie because he believes that fighting with Pacman, he will surely send into an early retirement same with Morales, Barerra & Dela Hoya. lol

I'd rather see PacMan vs HitMan. It won't happen now, bur it sure would be a fun fight to watch, as long as it lasts.

Greedy Bastards??? WHAT!?
Fighters need more than just the thrill and titles to win. When you know you are fighting a nontitle fight and the other fighter is receiving just as much as you. Whats your motivation? It should be, you win, you get the most $$.

receiving 50% from the gate & PPVs, including that of the UK is very huge for the POOR BOY from GENSAN Philippines to resists. this was the first thing in ming these RACISTS from UK including arum thought.
well, they're in for a very big blunder especially arum. because of the greed for money, arum forgot that his PRIZEFIGHTER is a principled Manny to the point of giving Manny an ultimatum or else he will pull the plug. Its principle over money is what Manny is talking here. Manny is right when he said that he'll be degrading himself if he'll accept the offer. He is universally recognized as the best boxer there is today, a p4p king. He didnt achieved this stature overnight. He achieved this thru hardwork, patience & discipline. Manny is humble & not greedy. all he needs is little respect of what he is now, same respect that he gave to ODLH, even up to this point. 60-40 is fair enough asking share but am sure this could be compromised, could be 55-45 or even 52-48. Hatton needs Manny much more than Manny needs him & this is his very big chance to prove that he is worth what he's askin for. BUT this is a very tall order for Hatton. SO there, Hatton camps, take it or leave it, Manny said.lol
