Quintana vs Williams, what will happen? E-mail
When two good fighters have a close fight and are still in the stage of their career where they need exposure, the best option they have is to fight each other again.  We saw it with Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez, and now we will see it again when Carlos Quintana and Paul Williams meet again in a welterweight title fight televised on Showtime.

Only four months after the first fight, Williams still claims he wasn't himself that night, and many Liverpuncher members are placing their predictions based on the same rationale.  As active LP member scientific KO wrote, “[Williams] learns much from his last fight & will come very prepared to leave a battered Quintana in his wake! The Punisher by UD.”

Most people seem to believe he'll earn revenge. In fact two days before fight time 62% of predictions cast are in favor of Williams.  Those people hold the view that Williams did indeed box below his best last time and that Saturday's fight will be a different story. As LP member Bodysnatcher predicted, “Quintana did dominate, but I have to think that it's because Williams was not as his best. With a better gameplan I think he can do better.”

An overwhelming betting favorite the first time, Williams is still the oddsmakers' choice, at roughly 5-2 on.

Sometimes, though, one boxer simply has the others number. To which thatboyelite pointed out, “For every fighter, there is another fighter that for some reason or another is there Achilles heel. Mayorga for Forrest Douglas for tyson Rocky for Apollo Carlos Quintana might be that for Paul Williams”

Lets not forget, Quintana didn't just scrape home last time, he was a clear winner on the judges' cards: 116-112, 116-112 again and 115-113.

Will the Puerto Rican be able to employ the same clever left hand which had Williams seeing stars last time?  As our resident Champion, Everlast21, pointed out “Close fight, but Carlos still catches him with that straight left. – Quintana by Dec.”

Its a thought provoking fight, to which active member bombastic1 asks, “Is Williams overhyped off a win over Margarito or Quintana isn't as bad as he seemed in getting blown out by Cotto? Was the first fight a fluke or the southpaw style the reason?”

These are some great questions and there is only one way to really find out – with the two combatants in the ring.  Be sure to get your prediction in before fight time.

As a reminder, to win the Liverpuncher championship, you must have a minimum of 40 posts during the duration of the season, so keep those liverpunches flying!
