1. Ricky Hatton has talked about a possible comeback to the ring in 2010. He reportedly said, “I want to go out like Kostya Tszyu”. So you mean you want to quit on you stool before last round? Lets hope not. But he went on to say he wanted to be in an all out war. Some of the names he mentioned were Juan Manuel Marquez, and Oscar De La Hoya. Marquez would be a good match up, but perhaps he is still feeling the effects of Pacquiao knocking him out if he thinks De La Hoya will fight again.

land Pacquiao vs. Mayweather. At the last minute Richard Schafer canceled a trip to visit the Dallas stadium and Bob Arum felt something was “fishy“ about that. He was probably right in thinking so because soon thereafter Staples Center, who have a close working relationship with Schafer, submitted an offer for $20M. However Arum declined the offer since the fighters would be taxed heavily in California coupled with the fact that Dallas Cowboys owner had a higher bid.
3. Jermain Taylor will be fighting Olympic gold medalist and WBA Champion Andre “SOG” Ward in April of 2010 despite Lou Dibella’s recommendation for him to retire from the sport. In fact Dibella will no longer promote Taylor because he didn’t want to be a part of watching his former fighter possibly hurt himself seriously in the ring. It’s a noble gesture from Dibella, but I can already see other promoters salivating at the chance of getting Taylor under contract.
4. There are five interesting fights on Saturday December 12th. Vic Darchinyan vs. Tomas Rojas, Victor Ortiz vs. Antonio Diaz, Juan Diaz vs. Paulie Maligniaggi, Lamont Peterson vs. Tim Bradley, and Vitali Klitschko vs. Kevin Johnson. That ‘s enough to keep any fight fan busy for one day. Who said boxing was dead?
5. Just when you thought things couldn’t be worse for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. after his lack luster performance on the under card of Cotto vs. Pacquiao, it turns out he was using a banned diuretic to lose weight for the fight. It wasn’t a serious issue like using performance enhancing substances, but it still doesn’t bode well for the young man.
6. Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins hopefully taught Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao a valuable lesson: When a fight is ripe and the fans demand it, you make it happen. Jones and Hopkins bickered about money for about ten years and a rematch never materialized. Since Jones was stopped in the first round last week by Danny Green the rematch will probably never happen.
7. Floyd Mayweather Jr. was on the new Joe Buck Live sports show on HBO this week and one of the first shouts heard from the live audience was “Pacquiao!”. This fight is not only ripe, its bursting from the seams to happen.
8. And last on the standing 8 we leave with a recent quote from WBA Heavyweight Champion David Haye, “The Klitschkos (Vitali and brother Wladimir) don't care about being great fighters, whereas I do. They may be big in Switzerland, but so are yodellers, and nobody wants to watch them fight.”
