Standing 8: News and Notes. Is De La Hoya hurting Mosley chances? E-mail

1. According to Oscar De La Hoya, Freddie Roach is too smart to put Manny Pacquiao in a fight with Shane Mosley.  De La Hoya feels Mosley would “crush” Pacquiao.  And says that the fight will probably not happen for that reason.  I’m not so sure that kind of talk helps Mosley’s negotiations…

2. Mayweather is playing the violin again…figuratively that is.  He once again is complaining about how he is treated “unfairly” because he is making Juan Manuel Marquez move up from lightweight to fight at welterweight while De La Hoya didn’t receive any criticism for making Mosley do the same.  Note to Mayweather, Mosley is a much bigger man than Marquez, and if he wants to do what De La Hoya did, then he should face Mosley twice.

3. Gorge Foreman III, the son of Hall Of Fame fighter Gorge Foreman is training to fight.  And he is doing it the way his old man did: digging ditches, chopping wood, pulling cars up hill; now that is old school.  Standing at 6’5” 240 pounds, “Monk”, says sparring sessions with his dad have taught him to be smart in the ring.

4. The always diplomatic Sugar Ray Leonard was recently quoted as saying that his two favorite fighters are Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao because of the excitement they bring to the ring.  C’mon Sugarman, tell us who you really want to win between the two…that’s like being a Yankees and Red Sox fan.

5. As if the David Haye vs Wladimir Klitschko cancelation wasn’t bad enough, recent reports are surfacing that Ruslan Chagaev may step in to take his place.  Talk about going from bad to worse.  I think most fans would be willing to wait for Haye to heel.  Lets see what happens.

6. WBC President Jose Suliman has said that Golden Boy Promotions is creating an unfair “monopoly” over the fights that are shown on HBO.  I guess Suliman thinks he doesn’t need De La Hoya anymore so why not be critical…what a difference a retirement makes.

7. If Bernard Hopkins is still looking for a dance partner, he need to look no further than Carl Froch.  After stopping Jermain Taylor in dramatic fashion Froch says he is willing to face Hopkins in the USA

8. A quote from none other than “Money” Mayweather: “Manny Pacquiao never called me out. You never heard him say that. But I was watching on TV and I heard Marquez call me out. So I said, ‘OK, if he wants some, he can have it.’ Any one of them, whoever, they know where to find me.”

Oscar should just keep his mouth shut smilies/cheesy.gif

Mayweather calling Marquez moving up the same as Mosley moving up is a bad analogy all around. Mosley is bigger, and he took a 147lb tune up vs. Rivera prior to fighting Oscar. smilies/shocked.gif

K man should just wait for Haye! i think the injury is legitimate, Haye apologized to all fans and ticket buyers, and says upon clearance he would love to proceed with the fight! berto and cintron should be up here for they're work! berto for for all the man love he gave urango, and killer for resucitating his career...for now at least! in the end tho....got to love the standing 8 count!! peace!

Yeah, everyone knows whenever fighters like Cotto, Mosley, Margarito call him out he's ready to jump right in to fight them ... but wait first the smaller guys! smilies/grin.gif

Honestly! i see Shane Mosley being a problem for both Floyd & Manny. Paul Williams on the other hand is a whole different story. Mosley will do more than expose Floyd right now if they were to fight.Manny would also give Floyd a hard time without a tune up. Marquez is an excellent fighter however Floyd could use his movement to discourage him right now. Also he knows Marquez would be carrying all that extra weight. Therefore Floyd could present Marquez problem's late in the fight.

I don't blame Haye for giving excuses to fight the world heavyweight champ. Klischko is brutal, i wouldnt want to face him if i were haye. Knocking out Cruiserweight's isnt the same is knocking out Heavyweight's. The most interesting fight right now is Cotto vs. Clottey if Clottey remain's busy inside this could be a great slugfest.

we are yet to truly see all that mayweather can do. why? because he has not fought the best opposition. how dare he call himself the best without fighting cotto, pacquiao, mosley or williams? i would bet all i am worth that mayweather would not be undefeated if he fought all 4 guys. its like ali not bothering to fight frazier, leonard not fighting hagler or the more recent pacquiao vs marquez 2. mayweather has to test himself even further than he has to earn that title, he should not even been labeled p4p king before retiring. he could be one of the best, but he is just not there yet...

Mayweather excells in elusiveness and boxing skills. He is also very bright. He knows how to manipulate and can convince some people with his mouth.

But as bright as he is, I can see through his veil. I see a very scared man.

A coward? He is doing everything to avoid Pacquiao. He avoided Mosely and Cotto before. He doesn't reaize that he is making a laughing stock of himself.

He should have stayed retired. Now he has put himself into a hole. He may become dead even before dying. Without even fighting after his unretirement.

The only way for him to regain my respect is for him to get into the ring with Pacquiao. I then would resume considering him as one of the all time greats of boxing win or lose.

Calderon called floyd out...floyd will surely take it at 147lbs. After beating calderon he will arrogantly declare his number one status... :-
