The Boxing Super Six Tournament Style is exactly what boxing Needs! E-mail
By Sal V With so many fighters, so many divisions, so many promoters how is it any fights are even made let alone one declared a champion?  With fighters not wanting to fight each other for this or that reason, how are fight fans going to know who is the best?

Well bring in the “Super Six Tournament” by Showtime.  Its style and ideal to make a super champion from a tournament style has been done before but not quite like this and not to this scale...

Remember Don Kings Middleweight tournament?  Keith Holmes,
William Joppy, Felix Trinidad and Bernard Hopkins?  Well, this time its 6 fighters with a point system made to give extra points for a KO win.  (Sounds like Liverpuncher.com’s Boxing Fantasy League!)  Mikkel Kessler, Arthur Abraham, Carl Froch, Jermain Taylor, Andre Ward, and Andre Dirrell 3 Euros vs. 3 Americans, what more can boxing fans ask for?  Maybe a TV reality series to go along with it?  Well, you got that too!

The 1990’s was a tough year for boxing fans.  We had Joe Calzaghe not budging from 168lbs, Roy Jones fighting mis-mandatory after mis-mandatory and Bernard Hopkins stuck in a Middleweight division full of no-hopers.  All this while Roy Jones did not want to fight in Europe while the Europeans would rather fight on their home turf. It would take 10 years later with the fighters in their late 30’s for them to eventually fight each other.  By then, most of the buzz was gone.

Now with the Super 6 tournament, we have Arthur Abraham willing to drop his Middleweight title to compete in the tournament at Super Middleweight.  We have American young gun Andre Ward willing to put his 0 on the line.  We have fighters willing to come to the US and our guys willing to go out to Europe.  This would have never have happened in 1990’s.  What more can boxing fans ask for?

Imagine a round robin tournament for the welter weight division.  Pacquiao, Cotto, Margarito, Mosley, Clottey and Mayweather.  Because of all the Politricks involved it may never happen.  Tournaments like this are exactly what boxing fans want to see, not tune up showcase fights put on Pay Per View.  So to the guys in the Super 6 Tourney, we boxing fans salute you and will be tuning in!

Boxing Fans, the 360 Reality Boxing Series can be seen on Showtime all week long!  Be sure to get your predictions for this weekends fights in the Fantasy League!

This tournament is crazy. It's going to take 2 years to determine the winner. We'll have to see how this plays out. At the very least, top dogs are fighting each other, not avoiding one another so you have to give all parties props for that.

In England, Froch will face Dirrell and in Germany, Abraham will face Taylor. Kessler will defend against Ward. Other matches include Abraham against Dirrell in January in the U.S.; Froch against Kessler in March in Europe; Ward against Taylor in spring 2010 in the U.S.; Ward facing his Olympic teammate in summer 2010 in the U.S.; Froch against Abraham in summer 2010 in Europe; and Kessler against Taylor in the U.S. in fall 2010.
