The man who will be King: Daniel "The Golden Child" Jacobs
Blog by John Krause - If you
enjoy watching the under card fights on pay-per-view, then you should already
know the name Daniel “The Golden Child” Jacobs (12-0, 11
KOs).
Arguably
American’s most talented prospect,
Brooklyn’s
super middleweight Daniel Jacobs was the four time New York Golden Gloves
Champion and, as an amateur, Jacob’s record includes 137 victories and only 7
defeats.
Nearly a
year into his professional career, 21 year old Daniel Jacobs shows the promise
and the potential of being the next generation of American boxing.
With a vast
amateur pedigree, Jacob’s professional career is set to explode into the pound
for pound rankings early next year.
First
appearing on the Mayweather vs. Hatton under card, Jacobs has fought nearly
once a month since his pro debut in December, 2007, usually on the under card
of PPV fights.
Jacobs most
recently scored a third round TKO of Jimmy Campbell on the Calzaghe/Jones under
card.
Jacobs highlight liverpunch KO:
By his own
admission, Jacobs says he has the talent and the ability, his only focus now is
on conditioning his body for the adjustment from the amateur system of 4, two
minute rounds, to the professional possibility of 12, three minute rounds.
However,
with 8 first round
KOs to his credit, Jacobs
could seemingly have a beer in his hand and a cigarette on his lips and still
not find an athletic equal (see Jacob’s double left hook vs. Jose Pena).
Jacob’s
brain trust is moving him along appropriately, and Jacobs has yet to face
anyone who can match his flash.
With
blindingly fast hands, numbing power, and an overall ring intelligence that has
not been on display by an American prospect in sometime, Jacob’s will continue
knocking out bums into next year, at which point this young prince of pugilism
should be in a position to make moves towards title shot.
He's very good, I've seen him first hand. The kids got power and speed. The best thing about him though is that he takes his time and doesn't rush his punches.
