Reports from the AP Dave Skretta
shows that the champion Kelly Pavlik heart rate skyrocketed to 150 beats per
minute as his temperature went over 104.
An
allergic reaction to medication nearly KO'd the champ for good as he tried to fight off what
began as a staph infection after a bout with Marco Antonio Rubio. Click for More.
“I’m not a medical man but he was really close to the edge that day,” Mike Pavlik said.
He says the infection began in his knuckle as it split open where bacteria formed, “I was ready to say right there, chop the hand off,” Pavlik said.
Many fight fans have wondered how could a fight be off two times? The multiple surgeries in the hand of Pavlik was so bad, he ultimately was not able to close his hand and make a fist. The fight in December with Paul Williams was declared off.
Many wondered if this meant he was scared of Williams or holding out for more money. On the contrary, Pavlik said this is definitely not the case. “There’s nothing you can do about it. I’ll sleep, eat well at night. I know the truth. But my dad, the guys in camp who now what’s going on, it’s hard on them.
"I want to fight, and people question because I’ve been inactive, but there’s goals I want to accomplish. It does feel like wasted time, where I could be out accomplishing a lot. And one big fight could sum up that big accomplishment.”
What they say: "Pavlik nearly died" What they mean: "We are trying to salvage whats left off Pavlik's image and credibility by taking it to extremes. Fever, allergic reaction, near death, hand almost chopped off..."
Sorry, we d probably buy the story but its happened so often with Pavlik in the past, that he has lost the benefit of doubt.
Ive seen Pavlik fight, get KOd getup from he canvas THEN KO J. Taylor. That is a warrior heart. Today most fighters give up, walk away and take the money. If he says he can't fight, what can i say...
Sure his stock has slipped a little because we're never sure of what we are told, but a win over a legit contender will put him right back in the picture. I still believe that if you cannot defend you're title you should lose your title, for whatever reason.
Why did the "Near Death" story come out before and why now? Sounds fishy to me, Doctors most often give a person antabayotics for that sort of thing. Either way babysiting time is over if he cant fight then he must be stripped and we can watch the next best fight for the strap.
yeah, believe the story or not.. the fight game must go on.. can't defend your title, then it should be given to someone who can.. you can have 1st shot at it when you're healthy..
Hey bench, first of all your spelling sucks. It's antibiotics. Secondly, you say he should lose his title? LOL. Staff is pretty serious. ask any MMA fighter or wrestler. Why would he fight unhealthy and risk his title. Think about it
Look BB I dont care what you think of my spelling if you dont like it then dont fcn read it. Second are you a RN or Doctor? I am not here to discuss fungis or your misspelling induced assache. The fact is he wont be risking a title if he is not healthy enough to defend it;(hell be striped)Think about it.
