Vic Darchinyan wins, wants to move up! E-mail
By Sal V. Vic Darchinyan (34-2) wins a decision and continues to hold the WBC and WBA belts at 115lb over green but game Rodrigo Guerrero of Mexico city.  Scores were 117-111, 120-108, 118-110.  Not much was known about the Mexican fighter prior to the fight as he had never fought in the United States and only had 14 fights in his career.

In a fight that saw some fireworks in round one, Darchinyan used his left handed power and huge uppercuts to slow the advancing Mexican fighter.  Darchinyan landed huge punches that sent Guerreros mouthpiece .... Click for more
flying in round 7 as he continued forward all 12 rounds.  Guerrero may have not won many rounds but gained a moral victory by staying upright despite the heavy shots by the champion.

“He just kept coming back.  I respect him he’s a good kid.  I hit him with some good punches,” Vic said of Guerrero.

When asked about moving up in weight or fighting Nonito Donaire, Darchinyan said:

“I would love to move up….I would like to see this kid (Guerrero) fight Donaire.  He’ll see what hell he would give him.  I don't think he wants to fight me.  He’s scared he don’t want to.  Here I have two belts (WBC/WBA) I don’t want to even mention his name.  I want to move up and fight better champions.”

Not too bad for Guerrero. First of.. he lasted the 12 rounds, took Vic's best punches, He seemed composed in the first rounds that is, he never backed down, and being that its his first lefty that he fights and on showtime, i think we may see him again.

Vic and donaire need to get that rematch then move on.
