Well what do you know? It’s another “arm bar” for the MMA. E-mail

Blog by Socalboxer socalboxer  -The MMA world was flipped on its head again. Recently we saw one of their major attractions, Brock Lesnar, who is more famous for his WWE make believe wrestling bouts than his “stand up”, get tapped out by some no name fighter who seemed to twist his pinky toe too much.  And it wasn’t more than 2 weeks ago that the MMA’s largest attraction, Kimbo Slice, was reduced to a freak sideshow and exposed as an internet fraud by getting knocked out by a jab in 14 seconds.

And now, the recognized best fighter in the MMA put on one of the worst fights in the history of any combat sport.  It actually caused the UFC president Dana White to think he was in an “alternate universe” and say, “I was sitting there going, ‘No, this isn’t happening!”.

During this same time frame, we saw one of the best performances by any athlete in the history of all sports by Bernard Hopkins, and a come from behind thriller with a dramatic saved by the bell ending in Bute vs Andrade.

And that’s not all; this week is a unification match up by Cristian Mijares and Vic Darchinyan which is sure to produce fireworks at the highest level of the sport.

Meanwhile, Dana White was hurling tomatoes at the demise of Elite XC.  Saying how it has hurt the MMA more than anything he could think of, but that was before the UFC 90 Silva fight.

At the end of the first round Patrick Cote, after watching Silva bizarrely bow to him, shrugged in bafflement. That wasn’t even as unusual as the moment in the second round when Silva offered a hand to help Cote up off his back, rather than stomp him as you’d expect.

The Silva-Cote middleweight title fight ended in the third round when Cote blew out his knee without any contact. That was as strange, although not as much as the fight lasting to the third round in the first place.  Silva danced, he pranced, he swayed and he even prayed.  But he didn’t fight.

Now some are suggesting putting Silva in with old man Chuck Lidell.  As if Lidell could put on the performance of a truly great fighter like Hopkins.  I’ll tell you one thing, I wouldn’t spend my money on it.

There must not be drug testing in the MMA. And I'm not talking about steroids. That's all I'm going to say.

Silva just got bored in this fight. He's like the Margarito of MMA he's incredible man. I love boxing and boxing is my favorite sport but Brazilians dominate MMA they have alot of good fighters in this field to bad they don't do to good in boxing there would definetly be some wars beetween mexican brazilians and puerto ricans.

Nice article SoCal. I have been a fan of both sports for a while. Sounds like MMA is going thru that same slump boxing was in with really lame match ups soaking up your hard earned PPV dollars and giving the sport a bad name. Silva is usually an exciting fighter. Boxing has been on the upswing tho. Cotto/Margarito, Andrade/Bute and Darch/Mijares are the type of fights that are going to bring some respect back to the sport of boxing. Great fights. Look forward to reading more from you. You got keen insights.
