Oscar De La hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. sat down with HBO’s Larry Merchant and Jim Lampley to discuss the fight and touched on weather the two would meet again in the ring.
One interesting topic was the mystery of Oscar’s lost jab. A graphic was displayed showing that Oscar landed 25% of the jabs in the first half of the fight and appeared to be ahead on the scorecards, but in the last 5 rounds, the jab connect percentage dropped by more than half and Oscar also lost those rounds on the judges scorecards. As Gorge foreman used to say, “Without the jab, Oscar is just an ordinary fighter.”
Floyd’s potential retirement was discussed as well. He has said that this would be his last fight, but this is the prime of his career. Floyd said, “lets do the World Awaits part 2”, squashing the idea that this would be his last fight. Ultimately it will be Oscar’s decision if a second fight were to take place.
